Last Dragon Standing

Last Dragon Standing

Dragon Kin bk 4

G.A. Aiken

When I first discovered this series in bk 2 About a Dragon I didn’t know what to think about this author and this series, I quickly grew to like it and in bk 3 What  a Dragon Should know I fell in love. Now this series is one that you either love or hate as it is very different from anything that I have ever read but I think that is what makes it so great.

I know what they see when they look at me. The charming, soft-spoken dragoness bred from the most powerful of royal bloodlines. A disguise stronger than any battle shield that allows me to keep all suitors at tail’s length. A technique that’s worked until him. Until Ragnar the Cunning, handsome barbarian warlord and warrior mage from the desolate Northlands. Unlike those who’ve come before him, he does not simply submit to my astounding charm and devastating smile. Instead, he dismisses me as vapid, useless and, to my great annoyance, rather stupid!

Yet I’ll allow no male to dismiss me. Soon he’ll learn my worth, my many skills, and the strength of my will. For this one challenges me enough to make me want to ruthlessly taunt him, tease him and, finally, when the trap is set, bring him to his knees.

Keita is the youngest daughter of the the Quenn of the Southland Dragons and some say that she is a viper and well lots of other things as well. Ragnar is the current leader of the Dragons in the Northlands. Niether one of these two really like each other but that has more to do with a rather large misunderstanding from their past.

As these two work out their issues with each other we get to see all of the members of the royal family and what they have been up to in the time since the last book, as this one takes place two years later. They are a rather interesting bunch and one of my favorite parts of the whole series.

This is one of those books that if I were to describe the characters you would think that I was nuts and making it all up, however I have to tell you that these are characters that once you come to understand their lingo and I do mean that literally you will love them. I am not going to describe them or the mission that they are on because I think that you the reader should discover them all on your own.

If you are looking for something different then you can’t go wrong with these dragons and their colorful language and the way that they treat each other.

Psy/Changeling Series bk 9

Nalini Singh

Nalini does it again with a stellar story. As the world that she has created grows with new characters (we finally get to meet all the SnowDancer Lieutenants), and  the war that is coming with the PSY gets more intriguing were you almost want more of that than the love story, but not to much, but definitely unable to put the book down until you have read every single page and want much more of the story.

In his position as tracker for the SnowDancer pack, it’s up to Drew Kincaid to rein in rogue changelings who have lost control of their animal halves—even if it means killing those who have gone too far. But nothing in his life has prepared him for the battle he must now wage to win the heart of a woman who makes his body ignite…and who threatens to enslave his wolf.

Lieutenant Indigo Riviere doesn’t easily allow skin privileges, especially of the sensual kind—and the last person she expects to find herself craving is the most wickedly playful male in the den. Everything she knows tells her to pull back before the flames burn them both to ash…but she hasn’t counted on Drew’s will.

Now, two of SnowDancer’s most stubborn wolves find themselves playing a hot, sexy game even as lethal danger stalks the very place they call home…

Drew and Indigo are amazing characters that we have gotten to see in past books, we have always known that Indigo is a SnowDancer lieutenant and dominant wolf, but we haven’t know much about Drew, and all that changes as get to know more about these two characters. We also get to know more about those damn wolves and what happened in the past when Drew’s parents were killed.

One of the things that keeps us coming back for more is the coming war and the fall of silence, oh yeah and that upcoming story with Hawke and Sienna, and let me tell you that the scenes with these two in it are amazing and I am now counting down the months and days till we get their story.

The twist and turns that happen in this book definitely surprised me on some levels and not so much on other levels. I will say this though that something that happens at the end of the book completely surprised me and left me wanting more.

If you have never picked up a book in this series I highly recommend that you do, and if you a rapid fan of this series like I am (yes I even had a fan girl moment when I met Nalini in person) than this book will definitely not disappoint you.

Passions of a Wicked Earl

Passions of a Wicked Earl

Book 1 in London’s Greatest Lovers Series

by Lorraine Heath

Known throughout London for his prowess in the bedroom, Morgan Lyons, the 8th Earl of Westcliffe, cannot forgive an unpardonable affront to his honor. Discovering his young bride in the arms of his brother was a staggering blow–so he banished the beautiful deceiver to the country and devoted himself to the pursuit of carnal pleasure.

Claire Lyons was an innocent, frightened girl on her wedding day, seeking chaste comfort from a childhood friend. Now, years later, she has blossomed magnificently and has returned to London with one goal in mind: the seduction of her notorious husband. Unskilled in the sensual arts, she burns nonetheless for the kisses too long denied her. And she has but one Season to win back the heart of the rogue she betrayed.

This was a story of one mans fight between his feelings and pride and the wife who is willing to forgive all.

All Claire wanted was a chance to get to know Westcliffe before marriage so she could be more comfortable with him but unfortunately she listens to his brother Stephen who concocts an elaborate scheme to keep Claire and Westcliffe apart for a little longer after the wedding, the problem is it keeps them apart a lot longer than anyone could have predicted.  Now Westcliffe is out to hurt Claire but he really loves her and Claire is out to reclaim her husband.

Along the way we have the opportunity to meet a great supporting cast that you will want to read about again and again.

This story will have you crying in sorrow and also shouting for joy while you enjoy this wonderful romantic tale of true love finally found.

The Reckless Bride

The Reckless Bride

Black Cobra Quartet bk 4

Stephanie Laurens

What do you get when you take a girl that has denied who she is her whole life, and the fourth son of a titled lord that has been in the army and served in India for his whole adult life and is on a dangerous mission where he has to act against his nature, which gave him the nickname of Reckless? A great story is what you get.

He races to complete their mission against escalating odds–his task made more perilous when he loses his heart.

She’s determined to defy convention and live a solitary life–until she tastes the reckless pleasure found only in his arms.

Drawn together by fate, united by fiery passion, they pursue their shared destiny…one they’ll live to see only if they unmask the Black Cobra.

This book gives us the conclusion of the Black Cobra Quartet where the crucial piece of evidence that is needed to see the end of the Black Cobra is in the hands of Rafe. Along the route he comes into contact with Loretta and her aunt as they travel back to London after traveling the Continent.

I enjoyed this book a lot as we got to see a different part of Europe than we normally get to see in regency romance. Rafe and Loretta were also a great couple. Rafe refusing to act on his growing feelings for Loretta because of who they both are, and also because of his mission, until they get to London and everything has been resolved.

Loretta of course being a woman that has finally come into her own, does what we do best and takes control of the situation, forcing Rafe to well man up about his feelings.

This book also gives us the conclusion of the Black Cobra and let me tell you when I got to the end well it wasn’t what I was expecting and yet it made complete sense. I thought it ended the whole series really well. Once I started to read it I couldn’t put it down and was completely caught up in the story. In fact I got several complaints from the men in my house about me ignoring them and only reading this book.

If you haven’t yet picked up this series in this reviewers humble opinion this is one of the best historical series, and you will not be disappointed.

do you have a favorite historical series? One lucky commentator  will receive a copy of this book.

If you missed the other books in the series here they are….

The Promise by Brenda Joyce

Pride...

After a record breaking sail from China, Alexi de Warenne’s moment of triumph quickly vanishes. At his welcoming party, his bewitching childhood friend Elysse O’Neill begins flirting with a shipmate, clearly punishing Alexi for his time at sea. But when Alexi finds Elysse desperately struggling in the man’s arms,, tragedy ensues. Within days, Alexi weds her to save her honor—and leaves her to forge a new life.

and Pretense.

Elysse de Warenne rules the ton with her wit and grace, but the whispers of “abandoned bride” follow her ruthlessly. Elysse will never reveal the truth: that she hasn’t see her husband in six years—and they didn’t even consummate their marriage! When Alexi unexpectedly returns to England, Elysse will do whatever it takes to win his heart and claim her place at his side.

I have been in love with the de Warenne’s from the beginning and get so excited every time a new book comes out. It is a chance to get reconnected with some old friends.

The Promise was not disappointing!

I loved being able to finally hear Alexi & Elysse’s story! This was a timeless journey of friendship, forgiveness and of course true love.

You will not want to miss this one!

The Brazen Bride

The Brazen Bride

Black Cobra Quartet bk 3

Stephanie Laurens

As a Stephanie Laurens fan I didn’t even realize that this book had come out till I got the newsletter email from her about it, and then my bookstore didn’t even have a copy of it, so after finally hunting it down I had to finish the books that I was already reading before I could devote my time to this book.

Shipwrecked, wounded, he risks all to pursue his mission – only to discover a partner as daring and brazen as he.

Fiery, tempestuous, a queen in her own realm, she rescues a warrior – only to find her heart under seige.

Bound by passion, linked by need, together they must brave the enemy’s gauntlet to win all their hearts’ desire.

As the third book in this series, we already know who the bad guys are and what they are after, we also know all of the players in the story except for the heroines. When it comes to the men in Stephanie’s books I love them all, however I haven’t always liked the heroines as they have driven me simply nuts, and made me want to throw my book at the wall. Now I haven’t done that, but I have skipped over the parts where the heroine is in them. That is until the book 2 in this series and this book.

I absolutely loved the heroine in this book. Linnet is unlike any heroine that Stephanie has written before and as someone that has read all of her books I can say that with some confidence (if I am wrong please let me live in my ignorance). I don’t want to give away the surprise of the heroine but trust me she is worth reading this book for.

Logan has always known who and what he is, that is until he wakes up with no memory, and has to figure out some things and what he wants for the rest of his life, and he wants Linnet, only he has to finish his mission.

This is a book that makes you want to keep reading even though you know how it will end, mostly because of the characters and their personalities and also to see how this will end. Stephanie sets up the setting for the last book in the series beautifully with both the bad guys and the last hero.

This book may become one of my favorite of hers. Once again Stephanie was able to transport me completely to regency England and make me feel like I was in the story.
