About that Night by Julie James

Title: About that Night

Series: FBI/US Attorney s bk 3

Author: Julie James

Genre: Contemporary

HE’S PLAYING GAMES.

Though Rylann Pierce tried to fight the sparks she felt for billionaire heir Kyle Rhodes the night they met, their sizzling chemistry was undeniable. But after being stood up on their first date, Rylann never expected to see him again. So when she finds herself face-to-face with Kyle in a courthouse nine years later, she’s stunned. More troubling to the beautiful assistant U.S. attorney is that she’s still wildly attracted to him.

BUT SHE’S MAKING THE RULES.
Just released from prison, Kyle Rhodes isn’t thrilled to be the star witness in a high-profile criminal case—but when Rylann comes knocking at his door, he finds she may be the one lawyer he can’t say no to. Still as gorgeous and sharp-tongued as ever, she lays down the law: she doesn’t mix business with pleasure. But Kyle won’t give up on something he wants—and what he wants is the one woman he’s never forgotten. . .

One of my favorite contemporary authors is Julie James. I look forward to her books and re-read them over and over.

I have been looking forward to this book ever since A Lot Like Love came out and I had a conversation with her at RomCon about this book. As soon as it showed up on my doorstep I dropped everything and read it immediately. It was everything I was hoping for and more.

One of the hardest things to write and come off successfully is snark and sarcasm and Julie does a great job of writing it and making it believable.

Kyle is one of those characters that you want to know as soon as he shows up on the page. He’s rich, confident, smart oh and gorgeous, plus there is his hair..freakishly lustrous, shampoo-commercial hair

Kyle is a very sarcastic person one of my favorite lines is..The last thing he needed his super-perfect twin sister with her super-perfect FBI boyfriend knowing was that he was in another dispute..then there is Where did you hear that Siblings of Ex-Cons Anonymous..

One of my favorite scenes happens between Kyle and his dad. They are discussing how his dad is always saying things about him and his sister. This is his dad’s response..

Grey conceded that with a smile. “Fine. So I may, perhaps,  have a few occasional thoughts that I vocalize when it comes to you and your sister.” He pointed empatically. “You ever seen Keeping up with the Kardashians? Well I have. Caught an episode once in a hotel room. Gave me nightmares for weeks. God forbid I drop the ball and you two end up like that.”

Then there is Rylann. She is one tough cookie and she doesn’t take crap from anyone especially Kyle and man does she have his number. When she first meets Kyle in college she doesn’t have room for him in her life/plans but he manages to get past that and get a first date out of her. However because of the death of his mom the date never happens.

Fast forward 9 years and she’s an attorney for the very office that put him away and called him a terrorist. However that spark she felt all those years ago is still there. When the opportunity presents itself she can’t resist him anymore. To her he isn’t the Twitter Terrorist, or the billionaire heir, he just Kyle and she can call him on his crap. Which she does causing him to call her a burr in his ass.

There is so much about this book that I loved. Characters that are snarky, sarcastic, sassy, and have great one-liners. Sexual tension that leaps off the pages. A really great meet-cute. Jack from Something about You (yes I had to mention him because he’s just awesome and his scene in this book is hilarious). One of the things I really love about this book is the relationship that Kyle has with his sister and his dad.

This is one of those times where I’m going to tell you if you haven’t already pre-ordered it to do so NOW!

Grade A+

Fantastic review! Can’t wait to get my grubby little hands on this book!! Would LOVE to win a copy of A LOT LIKE LOVE and ABOUT THAT NIGHT. Jordan/Nick are one of my favorite literary couples, and it sure sounds like Kyle/Rylann will rank right up there with them.

Julie James is one of my favourite contemporary romance writers too. I often feel that contemporary romance has become synonymous with fall-insantly-into-bed-and-then-in-love, and this is why I don’t like half of the contemporary romance authors which sell in millions. Julie James, though, knows how to work upon a story.

My favourite by her is Something About You, hands down. Jack Pallas…mm. I am dying to read this one.

I like the new heading on the blog 🙂

I have heard a lot about Julie James’s books and since I enjoy books by Kristan Higgins, this author pops up a lot. I like an entertaining read and the reunion aspect in About that Night.
