BLOG TOUR: The Trouble With Honor by Julia London + GIVEAWAY

91VnBUFr62L._SL1500_Title:  The Trouble With Honor

Series:  Cabot Sisters Book #1

Author:  Julia London

Genre:  Historical

BlurbDesperate times call for daring measures as Honor Cabot, the eldest stepdaughter of the wealthy Earl of Beckington, awaits her family’s ruin. Upon the earl’s death she and her sisters stand to lose the luxury of their grand home—and their place on the pedestal of society—to their stepbrother and his social-climbing fiancée. Forced to act quickly, Honor makes a devil’s bargain with the only rogue in London who can seduce her stepbrother’s fiancée out of the Cabots’ lives for good.  An illegitimate son of a duke, George Easton was born of scandal and grows his fortune through dangerous risks. But now he and Honor are dabbling in a perilous dance of seduction that puts her reputation and his jaded heart on the line. And as unexpected desire threatens to change the rules of their secret game, the stakes may become too high even for a notorious gambler and a determined, free-spirited debutante to handle.

Thoughts:  This was my first experience with a Julia London, mostly because historical is not really my genre.  Occasionally I will stumble across one that peeks my interest however, as was the case with this one.  I have to say, I was not disappointed.  London managed to strike a good balance with being historically accurate, yet not being so caught up in the details and facts that she lost my interest.  Honor was also not your typical simpering heroine of the era – in fact, she chafed against the assigned role of women during the time, even going so far as to allude to the fact that unless they fought for change and what they wanted, how could women expect a different type of life?  Honor was spunky, daring, and definitely whirled through life – and the book! – like a mini-cyclone!  If there is nothing else you learn about her character though, it’s definitely that she goes after what she wants – no holds barred!  And I really admired her character.

George Easton might as well have been wacked with a two-by-four across the head, with all the impact Honor has on him!  The poor guy didn’t stand a chance!  I love how he challenges her, too, though in other ways – he can definitely hold his own.  I did grow a bit frustrated with him, but that is to be expected.  He is one of those good guys that really makes himself completely miserable trying to do the right thing – yet he has enough of a touch of ‘bad boy’ in him to keep him interesting and just slightly unpredictable.  There are also plenty of secondary characters, too, and I look forward to seeing more of them in future books in this series!

To be honest I have never read a historical quite like this one!  I was very impressed, and I look forward to reading more!
