Sometimes brotherhood can be another word for conspiracy…

Dennis Mira just had two unpleasant surprises. First he learned that his cousin Edward was secretly meeting with a real estate agent about their late grandfather’s magnificent West Village brownstone, despite the promise they both made to keep it in the family. Then, when he went to the house to confront Edward about it, he got a blunt object to the back of the head.

Luckily Dennis is married to Charlotte Mira, the NYPSD’s top profiler and a good friend of Lieutenant Eve Dallas. When the two arrive on the scene, he explains that the last thing he saw was Edward in a chair, bruised and bloody. When he came to, his cousin was gone. With the mess cleaned up and the security disks removed, there’s nothing left behind but a few traces for forensics to analyze.

As a former lawyer, judge, and senator, Edward Mira mingled with the elite and crossed paths with criminals, making enemies on a regular basis. Like so many politicians, he also made some very close friends behind closed—and locked—doors. But a badge and a billionaire husband can get you into places others can’t go, and Eve intends to shine some light on the dirty deals and dark motives behind the disappearance of a powerful man, the family discord over a multimillion-dollar piece of real estate . . . and a new case that no one saw coming.

Thoughts: After 42 books a reader would start to wonder how an author can keep writing about the same people and yet still make it fresh enough that we the readers want to keep reading. I have to say that Robb does an excellent job of it with the latest installment of her In Death Series.

If you’ve any of the previous 41 books, and if you haven’t shame on you, then you know that Eve has a giant soft spot for Dennis Mira. Its so huge that I think deep down she wishes he was her father, more so than Feeney, and for all intents and purposes Feeney is her father figure.

So when Mira calls Eve and tells her that Dennis has been attacked she drops everything and rushes to the scene. From there I have to tell you I was completely caught in the mystery and who done it. Now some will tell you that they figured it out right away, and then there are the others like me who seriously had no clue until it was revealed on the page.

Because of the nature of the crimes they’re investigating I will say that there is a little bit of strife amongest Eve and her team, and yes that includes Roarke. There’s also this really sweet scene between Eve and Dennis, okay more than one and I and those scenes are some of my favorites.

If you love this series or just a great who done it, then you won’t want to miss this book. It’s an excellent addition to a series that has firmly planted itself on my must buy in print, ebook, and audiobook. Yes all three formats. It’s that good.
