Captive of Sin

Captive of Sin

Anna Campbell

He pledged his honor to keep her safe…
Returning home to Cornwall after unspeakable tragedy, Sir Gideon Trevithick comes upon a defiant beauty in danger, and vows to protect her whatever the cost. He’s dismayed to discover that she’s none other than Lady Charis Weston, England’s wealthiest heiress – and that the only way to save her from the violent stepbrothers determined to steal her fortune is to wed her himself! Now Gideon must hide the dark secrets of his life from the bride he desires more with every heartbeat.

This is the first book of Anna Campbell’s that I have read. I had read good things about this book on various blogs, but had never picked it up. I finally read it as part of the RomCon Reading Challenge, and I have to say that I am really glad that I did.

Charis is running for her life, she has learned the hard way not to trust men, but she knows that she needs help, and there is something about the man that has found her hiding in the stables.

Gideon a man that has been shaped by the events in his past. He puts on a good mask, but only lets two people into his confidence, his man Tulliver, and his friend Akash. Only these two men know the horrors that he has faced.

When we look at men in the past, men that went to war and were warriors we at least I assume that they knew what their duty was and no matter the cost they did their duty. I never think about how they may have felt about what they did, or what had happened to them. I think that because of the world that they lived in and the times that they lived in that it was expected of them to be a certain way.

I liked how Anna showed us PTSD in Regency England. For that is what this is basically about with a great romance to help the hero overcome and conquer his fears because he needs to keep her safe from those that would harm her.

I really liked the interaction between these two. From the moment that they meet they are drawn to each other, and yet they aren’t sure if they can trust each other. Gideon however can’t let her go out on her own, he knows that she has a better chance traveling with him than on her own.
Charis is one of those women that has fallen into the hands of some really nasty guys, her stepbrothers, and even though they have been abusing her she hasn’t lost her sense of self-worth, or her moxy.

By the time that Gideon comes up with a plan to permanently protect her, she has already fallen in love with him. This however is something that Gideon doesn’t believe, as he thinks that she is confusing her feelings of love with those of gratitude.

Watching these two work out their issues, was a great read. It had everything that I think makes up a great romance novel.
If you have not previously read Anna Campbell I suggest that you correct this immediately and add her to your tbr pile.

I give this book a 4.5 out of 5
