DFRAT Guest Post: Renee Wildes

Today we have Renee Wildes on sharing why she went to digital publishing.

I’ve been published with Samhain Publishing since October 2008, and my sixth book comes out January 2013. I went into ebooks after traditional publishing couldn’t find a home for Duality. I was one of those cross-genres—too high fantasy for traditional romance and too romance for traditional fantasy. Ebooks have the flexibility to accept ANY genre combination. They believe a good story is a good story. Period. Regardless of genre or convention. They put it out there and let the readers decide.

I love Samhain. They are very author friendly and big on communication and teamwork. Authors are deeply involved in every step of the process, from the multiple edits to approving cover art to writing blurbs to choosing excerpts. Because the costs for producing an ebook are less than paperback, the publishers can pay higher royalty rates for ebooks than for print. And the volume of ebooks sold make it a good career choice for a writer. You get to write the stories you love and get it out to readers who share your enthusiasm and vision.

Riever’s Heart

Guardians of Light, Book 5

The warrior in her was ready for anything. But she never saw him coming…

Verdeen is on the brink becoming an elite warrior ranger until the ultimate humiliation—no war mare chooses her for advanced training. King Loren’s consolation prize isn’t much better. Journey to the Isle of Ice as bodyguard to a human riever. Daq Aryk. Barbarian. Prince of thieves.

Aryk dreams the impossible: unite six fractious clans into a peaceful nation. Failure means they are all doomed to kill each other off—and the nightmares of his son’s death by sword will come true. The new elven ambassador rouses his ire, not because she’s female, but because she’s inexperienced. Her possibly needless death weighs on his already overburdened soul. Her beauty is a distraction he can’t afford.

In a fragrant, moonlit garden, Verdeen dares yield to an irresistible compulsion to kiss the mortal riever. The heat shakes her to the core, and frees a desire that should occur but once in her life. With a mate.

As their quest twists down ever more dangerous paths, though, their bond is the asset that could assure peace…or the liability that could send a dream down in flames.

Warning: Contains hot, no-holds-barred sex, voyeurism, light spanking and some self-loving. Also betrayal and some graphic (but never gratuitous) battle violence.

    Morning everyone!
Thanks so much for having me for a visit today, and for the chance to share my own “road to THE CALL.” The biggest thing is to believe in your story and to never give up. The only certain way to never be published is to give up too soon or to never try.

Just an FYI that my website was recently updated w/the two new titles coming out in early 2013, and the current WIP I’m going to be working on all weekend. Also have started an Author Page on Facebook over at
https://www.facebook.com/ReneeWildes1 – would love to have you stop by and “LIKE” to keep up with news and tidbits.

I love your combination of fantasy and romance, Renee. I used to read fantasy hoping for a romance and romance wishing for a little more magic! So your books are perfect! Really looking forward to January 🙂

    Hi Renee,
I agree Linda is a great editor and I love Samhain’s covers. This publisher takes the time to get it right.

I enjoyed your blog, Renee. I’ve also found Samhain to be a
wonderful publisher with great editing and art. I love
their enthusiasm for exotic stories that don’t fit the
    ordinary pigeon holes.

    Hey Sandy!
I’ve been lucky to have Linda. No slacking in HER watch! I was sad to lose Anne Cain after the first three covers, but Kanaxa ROCKS. I’m looking forward to the future.

    Hi Phoebe!
I’ve found the most unique stories in ebooks, “Dare To Be Different” really applies. I’ve done elves, dragons, selkies, werewolves, gypsies, fairies, trolls and assassin nuns, Talking horses and sentient jewelry. I’ve never been told something’s too weird or unconventional or “just not done.”
