DFRAT: How I came to love my kindle + giveaway

My journey to e-books didn’t come about till 2010 when I bought my very first e-book.

It was Stay With Me by Maya Banks.

I’d seen one of Maya’s books that wasn’t a HQN Category romance and wanted to read more so I hit Amazon and discovered she had a TON of e-books out. So I downloaded the kindle app on my computer and that was all she wrote as I devoured her e-backlist.

I then went back to my print books. Occasionally reading an e-book that I found interesting. But never committing to buying an e-reader.

Then I began reviewing a lot of e-arc’s and thought I should really get an e-reader. But I just couldn’t see myself really liking it. But because of all the e-arc’s I was getting my husband bought me one for Valentine’s day last year.

I quickly became hooked on it, and discovered a TON of great e-books I’d never thought about before. But I ONLY bought books that were e-book only. A year later I’m still that way. UNLESS the book is free then well all bets are off πŸ™‚

I do have to admit however that I’m thinking about getting my favorite books for my kindle as well as having them in print

All that being said I take my kindle everywhere and have several favorite authors whose books are digital first and some who publish both. So here are a just a few of my favorite digital first authors.

Vivian Arend, who doesn’t love great wolf stories with lots of humor. And don’t forget her Six Pack Ranch books. Holy HOTNESS!! Fatin over at Β RR@H Novel Thoughts Β is completely to blame for my Lauren Dane addiction as she gifted me the first two books in de la Vega seriesΒ (Gibson is my favorite in the series and I’ve read it several times already), shortly after that one of her Chase Brother’s books was free on Kindle so I had to get it. The rest is as they say history with her. I’ve always been a sucker for cowboys so when Janon told me to check out Lorelei James Rough Riders I read one book and was completely hooked. I think I bought them one after another. Melissa Schroeder‘s A Little Harmless series is another one that I read as soon as they come out. Meg Benjamin‘s Konigsburg Series is another one I’m completely addicted to and yeah she just announced there’s another book coming. Bella Andre is may latest digital addiction and I can’t wait for the next book in her Sullivan series to come out. Erin Nicholas is another one of those really great digital authors. If you haven’t checked her out I highly recommend you correct this immediately. Shannon Stacey is one of my all time favorite digital first authors. I have yet to read a book of hers I didn’t love. Jenn LeBlanc did the unthinkable with her book she put pictures in it and it’s an only available in e-format. Mackenzie McKade writes delicious books as well and is one of the funnest people I’ve ever spent time with.

There are a few more that I have as auto-buy and I have to admit this list was longer than I thought it would.

So with all that said this bookaholic freely admits that I love the fact I have more ways to read the books I love, and I love that there is more than one way to publish a book. Especially considering some of my favorite authors were e-pubbed long before they were print authors.

With all that said we are giving away three of my favorite e-books. One of Vivian Arend’s Six Pack Ranch books, Beneath the Skin by Lauren Dane and Slow Summer Kisses by Shannon Stacey. Just leave a comment sharing your favorite e-book.

I started out same as you, with the free apps on my computer. I had a netbook at the time and brought it with me to read my books (not as convenient as an ereader). Hubby got me a smart phone and I downloaded Aldiko software too. Once I discovered all the free books available, I began devouring books and discovering new authors. I was on the fence about which ereader to buy, but I am so happy with my Kindle. I even got one for both of my kids (NO ONE touches my kindle LOL).
I am also discovering many blogs like this one, with book recommendations and authors. On the advice of one such blog, I already own “Slow Summer Kisses”. I will look into the other books and authors you mentioned above. Thanks for the info and the chance to win an ebook!

I swear I am not stalking the blogs, guys. As I’ve mentioned before in several posts, I used to be a very active member of the EC forums way back before ebooks became “the thing” and well, I am thrilled to see that ebooks are finally being accepted. All that being said, you HAVE to read Shelby Reed’s “A Fine Work of Art”… no, really, YOU HAVE TO. It’s short, it’s sweet. The setting is contemporary and it involves an older heroine with a younger hero (she’s 36, he’s 24). YUMMOLA hero btw.

There are many more that I consider favorites, check out Sahara Kelly or Lisa Marie Rice. My list is way long to post it though. But if nothing else, try Shelby Reed’s novella. I can’t say enough good things about it.

I discovered e-books a little over a year ago – on my phone. I went a little crazy my first few months buying anything and everything (in all formats – I have all the apps on my phone) and hubby finally shut me off. I’ve since graduated to my Kindle and I absolutely love it. I love being able to travel with tons of books so I can read what I’m in the mood to read rather than one or two books I used to bring with me. My favorite e-book so far though has been “Second Chances” by Lauren Dane. I was engrossed start to finish.

I’m a lot like this with e-books. At first, I just refused. Then I used the Kindle for Mac app. Then I got an e-reader for my birthday. Now I have two different e-readers πŸ™‚ I still read paper books at home but I love the e-reader and e-books for travel which I do more than I’d like. Nothing like being stuck at Heathrow airport for 11 (yes, that’s eleven!) hours to make you appreciate having unlimited books with you in your carry-on.

Wow. 11 hours! Yup, that’s when an eReader definitely trumps a paperback. πŸ™‚ I’m where Heather was in 201 but discovering a world of free eBooks and eBook first/only authors, plus becoming a reviewer here at The Book Readings Gals, convinced me it was time to get a Kindle. Expecting personal delivery by my NY-based BFF next month. πŸ˜€ Hope you win Melissa. You need supplies for Heathrow

I totally love my kindle. Haven’t had it for a year yet, but itbis loaded with books … Free and ones I have won. If you haven’t tried Ruthie Knox .. she is great. Only one book out Ride With Me, but her second is out this month. Shannon Stacey is another favorite.

I have had my kindle for 2 years now and I love it. I have started buying the books I love in ebook format so my hardbacks stay pretty. I love how accessible ereaders make books, though I never minded carrying around paperbacks.

I have a lot favorites, I love Carina Press, but my recent addiction is anything by Zoe Archer.

I don’t have an e-reader, but I am going to get one soon. I hope I can still enter. I just finished reading “50 Shades of Grey” and loved it!

How can I pick just one? Right now, I’ll go with Greta van der Rol’s “Iron Admiral: Conspiracy”, a sci-fi romance.
I’m still reading on my laptop though. I like the double pages and instant page turns.

My favorite ebook that I find myself reading over and over is Master of the Mountain by Cherise Sinclair. I’ve only been reading Ebooks for the last 3 years. I wish I had started sooner. I’m addicted to the convenience and instant gratification. I love being able to read something I bought less than a minute earlier.

I love ebooks as well! But, unlike you, I buy books without distinction of whether they are ebooks only or also available in paperbacks. Since I live in France, it’s easier for me to get books this way. So it’s a little difficult for me to tell you which ebook is my favorite! I’ve got so many authors in my kindle, like Kresley Cole, Kerrelyn Sparks, Carly Phillips and so on! But I’ve read “Wicked Games” by Jill Myles recently and I know (I’ve verified!) that it’s an ebook only. I really liked this book, it was funny and sweet.
I’ve bought a few days ago “Sweet Summer Kisses” and I really like it so far (I haven’t finished yet because I wasn’t home for a few days and I forgot my kindle!). Thank you for the advice!

I came slowly and reluctantly to the world of e-books and Kindles. My Mom bought me a Kindle a couple of years ago and I was not sure if it was going to be worth the money she had spent. I came around though and I am loving it because there is so much great stuff out there and many of my favorites like Lauren Dane, Shannon Stacey, and Marie Force! I don’t think that I will ever get rid of my paperback books (and I still buy lots) but I am definitely loving my Kindle!

I adore author, Karen Ranney, and have read so many of her books with more to go! She has been such a successful author and has written numerous books under her own name and her non de plume, Katherine Storm. Her latest novel, “A Scandalous Scot” comes out on June 29th and I’m so looking forward to getting it on my Kindle and starting to read it right away!
