Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah

In the turbulent summer of 1974, Kate Mularkey has accepted her place at the bottom of the eighth-grade social food chain. Then, to her amazement, the “coolest girl in the world” moves in across the street and wants to be her friend. Tully Hart seems to have it all—beauty, brains, ambition. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be: Kate, doomed to be forever uncool, with a loving family who mortifies her at every turn. Tully, steeped in glamour and mystery, but with a secret that is destroying her. They make a pact to be best friends forever; by summer’s end they’ve become TullyandKate. Inseparable.

REVIEW: Every once in a while a book come along that just reaches out and touches you. It grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. It pulls at your heartstrings, makes you laugh, makes you cry, and most important it makes you look at those in your life that mean the most, and whose lives have touched you.

That is this book. I knew going into the story how the book was going to end. Knowing that it took me a bit (2 whole days) to finally pick it up and read it. This book isn’t what I normally read, however I will be adding this author to my must read pile.

I have been blessed to have had great friends yes best friends at different times in my life, when I was 4 I met Aaron the boy next door and Jenifer the girl two houses down. Aaron and I were a lot like Tully and Kate, but Jenifer and I were two halves of the same hole. That is until I moved to another state. We lost touch, and it wasn’t till I was in college that I found friends like those two again. Kristin and Cherry. They supported me no matter what, and Cherry is the one that introduced me to Mike (much like Tully did Kate and Johnny). While living in Seattle I met a group of women that have become life long friends. Paula, Christie and Stacie. Living in NM now I can say that I have Danielle, Carla, and Tara.

The have been two surprises when it comes to friends though and I am not sure I was so surprised about them. My youngest sister Kim, and my sister in law Melanie. When I got together with Mike I had no clue that his older sister would become on of my best friends. There are

At each stage of my life I had a different best friend, but when it all boils down to it they were my Tully’s and some of my Kate’s.

I am not going to say much more about this book because if I do it will ruin it for you. It is one that you have to read. I will warn you that once you get to the last half you will need a box of klennex and will not be able to put it down. The story of Kate and Tully starts in 1974 and ends in 2004. We get to see some of those horrible fashion statements we made in the 80’s what the heck were we thinking, we get to relive important world events, but most of all we get to see a thirty year friendship through all it’s ups and downs.

I give this book a 5 out 5.

I was happy, had tears, frustration and so many other emotions while reading this book.

I LOVED this book, but LOVED True Colors, her new release just as much, if not more!

I just went to the library and requested a couple more of hers.

I have to agree with you about the full range of emotions that I felt while reading this book. I had a crying headache when I closed it.
