On This Mission, There Are No Accidents…

Pararescueman Jose “Cuervo” James is the guy they call for the most dangerous assignments. He lives for his job.

On a high-risk rescue deep in the African jungle, Jose encounters sexy, smart Interpol agent Stella Carson. They’d once had an affair that burned hot and fast, but family is everything to Stella, and Jose just can’t go there.

Fate has thrown them into the deadly hot zone together, and sparks will fly…but only if they can live to tell about it.

Every book in this series has held me on the edge of my seat, holding my breath and clenching my stomach muscles waiting to see what happens on the next page!!  If I was the kind of person to skip forward and read what comes next this would be the series that would make me flip to the end!!

With similar careers that expose them to danger and intrigue, Jose ‘Cuervo’ James is a PJ (pararescue jumper) and Stella Carson is a code breaker with Interpol. Both have issues in their past that have set their minds as to what they want in their futures. Unfortunately, their ideals do not mesh. Stella is determined to have a family and give them her focus and attention, something she never received from her mother. Jose thinks that because of his past with alcoholism he cannot have a family and risk disappointing them the way he was disappointed by his mother and sister.

When they first meet Stella is rescuing Jose and the team from the Gulf of Aden and there is a definite connection. “She turned and there were those coffee dark eyes again. Static-like awareness snapped when she looked back at the intense gaze that had held hers earlier… He was a lean, honed man in a pair of fitted swim trunks… He was glistening bronze with a body trained for survival anyplace, anytime”  COME ON!! What reader wouldn’t tingle a little at Catherine’s EXCELLENT use of words!!

They spend 5 months dating, getting to know each other and start to fall for one another. But then their ideals and expectation get in the way and they split – both still wanting the other but not willing to let go of their expectations.  4 weeks after the break-up its now Jose’s turn to rescue Stella after she is kidnapped while undercover in East Africa. “He clasped her elbow pulling her closer… ‘You want the truth? Here it is. The past month has been hell.’ His voice went raw. ‘Then thinking you would die in that camp took hell to a whole different level.’… ‘I’ve decided I’m not sure how I can live the rest of my life without you.’ ”  SIGHHHHH… The information recovered from where Stella was help captive leads them to Mogadishu where a threat to the Vice President’s wife and a 14-year old secret come to a head in an ending that unravels as only Ms. Mann can write it!!

This is the 4th book in the Elite Force series but it can also work as a stand alone read.  Its nice to see the rest of the team that we have come to know and love but they play a small part in the over all story.  To say I am a fan of this book, this series and Catherine Mann would be an understatement.  If you are a fan of romantic suspense this is a must-read!!
