Series:  Counting On Love Series Book #4

Author:  Erin Nicholas

Genre:  Romance/Contemporary

BlurbIt’s either true love…or the biggest mistake they’ve ever made.  Hot firefighter Cody Madsen has stayed away from Olivia Dixon for almost two years—technically. Even though he talks to her every day and sees her every weekend. But there’s no kissing, touching, or telling her how he really feels. Because they’re just friends. Anything more than that would mean crossing the line that Olivia’s older brother has firmly drawn between them.  Olivia wants what her three sisters have—true love. She could almost believe she’s found it with Cody, if it weren’t for the fact that he’s her older brother’s best friend and her brother won’t have it. And he’s never steered her wrong before. Her head is telling her to trust her brother, but her heart won’t let go of Cody.  Her solution? A dating site where she and Cody can each find their “Perfect Pick” once and for all.  But when the site yields some unexpected results, their real feelings come front and center. And they have to decide if it’s worth the risk to cross the line from friendship to love after all.  Warning: Contains a starry-eyed romantic, a wannabe knight in shining armor, and chocolate chip cookies. A lot of chocolate chip cookies.

Thoughts:  Erin Nicholas has rapidly become one of my favorite authors, and this book as a perfect example of exactly why that is.  From her attention grabbing opening lines to the witty banter between the characters, to the realistic content yet the amazingly fun vibe that envelopes you as you read it, it’s impossible not to be amazed by her writing style.  I only discovered Erin with the release of She’s The One (the first book in this series) and I have since went back and starting working my way through her backlist – so that tells you what an amazing author she is!  With that being said, I have to say how much I LOVED Going For Four!  Up until this one, I have to say that She’s The One  was my favorite of this series – but I believe that Going For Four even managed to eclipse that one.  Maybe.  It’s a really close call!

What did love about it?  One thing I love about Erin and her books is her fearlessness in conquering those topics or things that just seem to get swept to the sidelines elsewhere.  For me, that ‘taboo’ topic was Olivia’s orgasms!  I’m not going to go into too much detail and give it all away, but we know that achieving the Big ‘O’ is a little different for women than for men.  It was amazing to get hit with a little bit of the reality of that in a romance book.  Don’t worry though – there is still heat enough to singe the pages!  As for what else I loved, for those of you who know me or have read previous reviews of mine, one of my utmost favorite troupes or themes in a book is that ‘best friends to lovers’ one – especially when they have been pining away for each other for years!  Something about the build-up of sexual tension just gets me every time!  And the brilliance or Erin Nicholas? – To go a whole new level with it and have them both completely aware of that tension and doing their utmost to fight it!  We also learn a lot more when it comes to the history between Connor (Olivia’s brother) and Cody, which lends a whole new level of drama to the story!  We also get to see a level of protectiveness in Connor when it comes to Olivia that has all the other instances paling in comparison!  I still love Connor and can’t wait for his book, but he definitely has you gasping at his reaction and thinking about him a bit differently.  Bottom line – I can’t rave over this book enough!

This is one of those titles that you just can’t miss out on – whether you’re a fan of Erin’s or someone only just discovering her, you will not be disappointed!  Going for Four is just a fun, fun read, and one that will be on my list of books to re-read over and over for years to come!
