About HARD TO BE GOOD – AVAILABLE APRIL 14, 2015:

Hard Ink Tattoo owner Jeremy Rixey has taken on his brother’s stateside fight against the forces that nearly killed Nick and his Special Forces team a year before. Now, Jeremy’s whole world has been turned upside down—not the least of which by a brilliant, quiet blond man who tempts Jeremy to settle down for the first time ever.

Recent kidnapping victim Charlie Merritt has always been better with computers than people, so when he’s drawn into the SF team’s investigation of his army colonel father’s corruption, he’s surprised to find acceptance and friendship—especially since his father never accepted who Charlie was. Even more surprising is the heated tension Charlie feels with sexy, tattooed Jeremy, Charlie’s opposite in almost every way.

With tragedy and chaos all around them, temptation flashes hot, and Jeremy and Charlie can’t help but wonder why they’re trying so hard to be good…

THOUGHTS:

There are not enough words or stars for how much I loved this quick installment in the Hard Ink series!!  In the ARC copy that I received and read, Laura Kaye opens Hard to Be Good with an epigraph that states: Love knows no distinctions, it only knows the joy of finding in another everything your soul needs to feel complete. WOW! This took my breath away!

Jeremy has been a beloved character in every book in the series. His confidence and wit and loyalty make him sexy beyond belief. Throw in the ink and piercings and oh man… I want to read more and more about this guy!

Charlie is still recovering from a heck of an ordeal! Kidnapping and torture, becoming deathly ill after his subsequent rescue, he’s had a rough couple of weeks.

If ever two people needed each other it’s Jeremy and Charlie. Laura writes about the ‘aura of quiet around Charlie that was so peaceful it calmed all the shit whirling inside Jeremy’s head.’  At the same time I think Jeremy’s attention and affection give Charlie a confidence that he had taken from him when he was judged by his father when he told him he was gay.

“…Charlie realized something he’d never known before. Conquering fear didn’t mean not being afraid, it meant being afraid of something and doing it anyway. It meant saying no to fear – no you can’t rule me, no you can’t hold me back, no you can’t keep me from the things I want the most.”

This novella was more about the human interactions of our Hard Ink gang, Charlie and Jeremy coming into their own and watching the other couples grow, there wasn’t a lot of the action at least not the shoot ‘em up kind! But holy cow the yearning and chemistry is off the charts – a combo that Laura Kaye can execute like a pro!

I am so sad that we only have one more book and then it’s over! but after reading Laura’s words in Hard to Be Good, I cannot wait to read the 4th and final book in the Hard Ink series! Bring it on!  If you have not caught up on Laura’s HI world you better HURRY!! June will be here before we know it.
