Hazardous Duty

Duty Series bk 1

Savannah McLaughlin is running a little late. Those extra few minutes could mean she may never see her daughter again. The only clue Savannah and the police have to six-year-old Caroline’s disappearance is a note with a cryptic verse of scripture. With no signs of progress, Savannah is desperate enough to call the one man she knows can help — the one man who absolutely despises her.

If anyone can find Caroline, it’s Major Christopher Dane. The Army often calls on him to discreetly extract people from dangerous situations. But can Savannah trust him and the band of misfits Dane surrounds himself with? Or will the betrayal that took place in their dark past exclude any chance of a bright future?

REVIEW: I was given this book as a going away present from one of my friends before I left Albuquerque. I had never read anything by her, so I had no opinion of the book, in fact I had never even heard of the book. When finally sat down to read the book, I have to say that it quickly sucked me in.

Savannah is one of those characters that normally bug the crap out of me, and if I am honest I have to say that she bugged me for a while in this book, however as a mother myself I completely got her terror. I loved the flashbacks to when she first meet Dane and their relationship. Other than the mother connection however I never really got her.

Dane however I completely got. He is a man that has been shaped by his life. He was LDS and at his core has never forgotten the values that his parents have instilled in him. However he was betrayed by the person that was suppose to have been the one person that he trusted completely.

As Savannah and Dane work together to find Caroline they begin to put their past behind them and Savannah thinks they have a chance of resuming the relationship that they always should have had. However Dane feels that because of the things that he has done in his life to protect his country he doesn’t deserve a family.

The books with their relationship not yet resolved. When I finished this book I have to say that I was upset about that fact, until I went online and discovered that there were two more books in this series, and that Savannah and Dane were the main characters.

I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

I give this book a 4.5 out of 5.

You can purchase the book here, here and here.
