In the Arms of the Marquess by Katherine Ashe

Title: In the Arms of the Marquess

Series: Rogues of the Sea bk 3

Author: Katherine Ashe

Genre: Historical

She had never forgotten him…

Miss Octavia Pierce is witty, well off, and shockingly unwed. Still, she is far too successful in society to remain on the shelf forever, and her family has hopes that Octavia will finally make the perfect match. What they do not know is that years earlier Octavia was scandalously tempted by the one man capable of sweeping her off her feet—the man now known as the Marquess of Doreé.

A third son, never meant to inherit, Lord Ben Doreé has abandoned his past and grown accustomed to his illustrious new position of wealth and power. But he has never forgotten Octavia, and now she desperately needs his help in a most dangerous, clandestine matter. Although she claims she has put the memories of the passion they shared behind her, Ben is determined to once again have her in his arms—and in his bed.

This is my first book by Katherine Ashe and I have to say that at times I liked it and at times I was irritated by it. Over all however I enjoyed it. I will say that my feelings towards this book are probably colored by the fact that I have read a lot of historicals in the last couple of weeks when I normally don’t read a lot of them and am mostly likely on a burn out.

One of the things that I liked was how she descriptive she is. When the book opens up our heroine is arriving in India, as she describes the dock and all of Tavy’s impressions I felt myself transported to India and all of the excitement of the time. When Tavy and Ben meet for the first time you could feel that emotions of that meeting.

Overall I liked Ben and Tavy both individually and as a couple. However I didn’t like the way that they acted most of the time. I felt that if they had just sat down and had a simple conversation a lot of their conflict could have been resolved. However they were both to involved in their own agendas instead of working on their relationship if it could be classified as a relationship.

Ben is half English half Indian, and the third son. He was never suppose to inherit and was groomed for something altogether different. He has always wanted Tavy but because of the nature of who and what he does he doesn’t feel that he can bring her into his life, however he also can’t stay away from her.

Tavy is back in London for the first time in years, she is also firmly on the shelf. The only thing that she knows for sure is that Ben has never married and they are both in the same place. It doesn’t matter that as soon as she arrives a man that she’d met in India and genuinely liked has asked permission for her hand in marriage, she is drawn like a moth to a candle to Ben.

There is a lot that I could say about this book both good and bad, however and I have thought a lot about this, I’m not going to. I think that this is a book that while has a great romance between Ben and Tavy however the secondary characters sometimes take over and over shadow it. The conflict is one that would have been better if they’d worked together on it, instead of having their own agendas.

I haven’t read K. Ashe either – and I read tons of historicals. I kind of like the hero being 1/2 Indian and English.

Aurian..it isn’t a bad book, like I said in my review I think I was on historical burn out so I wasn’t exactly in the right frame of mind to read it. I’m really picky on my historicals and don’t like to branch out. I know it is very narrow minded of me. 🙂
