Interview with Kerrelyn Sparks + giveaway

We would like to welcome Kerrelyn Sparks to our blog today. She is the author of the very popular vampire series Love at Stake, her latest book Vampire Mine came out this week.

TBRG: Before we get started can you tell us a bit about the book?

KS: Vampire Mine stars one of the most famous grouches in the Vampire World—Connor Buchanan.  Readers have been wondering about Connor since the first book in the Love at Stake series. Why is he so opposed to love?  It will take a very special heroine to make Connor fall in love, and I’m delighted to say he falls hard.

The heroine is Marielle, a fallen angel who discovers herself trapped on earth in a human body.  She wants more than anything to find her way back to heaven, but she’s intrigued by all the new sensations that come with being human. She can smell, taste, and feel, and even more disturbing, she is flooded with feelings for Connor.  Will she make it back to heaven, or will she find heaven here on earth?

TBRG: Who has been the biggest influence on your writing?

KS: Authors I admire like Jayne Ann Krentz (Amanda Quick), Julie Garwood, Jude Deveraux, JK Rowling, and Karen Marie Moning.  I love their senses of humor and admire their incredible writing.

TBRG:  What is the one thing your readers would be the most surprised to know about you?

KS: I would be afraid to meet a real vampire!

TBRG:   Where is the one place you have always wanted to go , a place on your bucket list?

KS: Ireland!

TBRG: Who are some of your go to authors, and what are you reading right now?

KS:  Recently, I’ve been totally hooked on the fever series by Karen Marie Moning.  I also love Lynsay Sands (just finished reading The Countess), Jayne Ann Krentz, Eloisa James, Janet Evanovich, and others.

TBRG: If you weren’t writing and keeping us in books (thanks for that by the way), what would you be doing?

KS: More reading!!!

TBRG: Who is on your playlist when you are writing?

KS: For Vampire Mine, I played Apocalyptica for the battles and dramatic scenes.  For Marielle, I played Enya, and for Connor, I played Elizabethan-era songs like “In Darkness Let Me Dwell,” written by John Dowland and sung by Sting.

TBRG: Where do your ideas/characters come from?

KS: I can draw inspiration from almost anywhere—music, movies, TV shows, other stories, daydreaming, people watching, my own past experiences, and brainstorming with my friends/critique group.

TBRG: Are you a planner or a fly by the sear author?

KS: Fly by my seat.  Although I suspect my subconscious is doing a lot of planning that I’m not aware of until things magically come together.

TBRG: What has been the best part of writing this series?

KS: How well it has been received by readers!  I’ve grown very fond of the characters, and it’s very exciting when readers share that fondness.

TBRG: I read a lot of vampire books and the one thing I like best about your series is that it is very different from the other vampire books out there. Did you set out to intentionally be different or did it just happen?

KS: I didn’t realize my series was different!  But that’s probably because I intentionally avoid reading other vampire series.  I know I’m missing some great books (like the ones by JR Ward, Charlaine Harris, and Lara Adrian), but I don’t want to subconsciously influence my writing.  I tend to read historical or contemporary romance, or paranormal series that focus on something other than vampires.

TBRG: I have just finished the book and I have to ask, the way that it ended it made me wonder is this the last book in the series?

KS: I can see how you might think that, since a major villain is finally defeated in Vampire Mine.  But a new villain, Master Han, was introduced in Eat Prey Love, and he will continue to cause trouble.

TBRG: What is next for you?

KS: Book # 11 is next!  Sexiest Vampire Alive stars that naughty playboy vampire, Gregori, and it releases at the end of September, 2011.

Kerrelyn Sparks’ first paranormal romance, How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire, zoomed out of the bat cave so fast it became Borders bestselling debut romance of 2005.   Each book in the Love at Stake series has become aUSAToday bestseller.  When the fourth book,The Undead Next Door, landed on the New York Times bestseller list, even the Undead sat up and took notice, which made Kerrelyn a bit nervous. She lives in the Greater Houston area with her husband, children, and a house full of garlic.  So far, there are no vampires in her family. Werewolves are another matter entirely.

Nothing on earth can make this vampire fall in love…

After 499 years of existence, Connor Buchanan has arrived at an inescapable conclusion: he is a cold-hearted SOB.  He’s been watching his friends—those poor romantic fools—plummet off the cliff into love like a dazed herd of sheep.  But not Connor.  He knows that love leads to nothing by heartache.

Until Marielle…

She is an angel cast down from heaven for disobedience.  Trapped in mortal form, she finds a protector in Connor, a Scottish vampire haunted by a dark past.  Marielle hopes to heal his broken heart and earn her way back home, but suddenly she has these…feelings. This strange yet pleasant physical yearning—for a vampire!  Is this the work of a demon luring her into hell, or has this angel found heavenly bliss?

Kerrelyn, what a great series…I was so impressed with How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire because the hero is sexy, caring and just a bit brooding but is not overly so; the heroine is bright, witty and has chutzpa…(Hate those whiny, prim heroines you find in some books!) I read an excerpt from Vampire Mine, and I’m excited to finish reading it (It’s on my Amazon Wishlist)…Highlanders are yummy enough but vampire highlanders are off-the-scale awesome! And Connor was so sweet in How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire – he deserves his own book! Good luck with the other books in the series…I will be happily awaiting them!

I love this series! My fave paranormal authors are Kerrelyn and Lynsay Sands. I love how they both add humor to their paranormal romances. My favorite heroes would have to be any of the Highlanders: Angus, Robbie, Ian, Connor. But I also love the shifters: Carlos and Phil. Guess I just love all her heroes 😉

I would pick All I want for Christmas is a Vampire. I am currently reading Vampire Mine and LOVING it! No surprise there 🙂

I love reading Kerrelyn’s books. I find them very humorous and very easy to sit back and lose time reading. My favorite book/hero would have to be the one and only Casanova. I laughed until I cried through some of those scenes.
If I won a free book, it would hope that it would be Vampire Mine. I haven’t had a chance to get it yet.

I would love to have the newest book Vampire Mine for I have yet to receive my copy! Though you can never have enough copies of any of Kerrelyn’s books!
Paranormal romance has definitely became my favorite genre of romance to read in the past year. Kerrelyn’s series turned me on to it all, so she is at the top of my list of authors I can’t get enough of. Others include Lara Adrian, Charlaine Harris, Jacquelyn Franks, Lynsay Sands…
My favorite hero would have to be either Robby or Connor from Kerrelyn’s Love at Stake series or Reule from Jacquelyn Frank’s books Drink of Me. Those are some sexy men who know how to love!

Thanks for the great interview plus the giveaway!

Connor is my favorite bad boy in this series. I have waited so long for this book and i feel let down. Don’t get me wrong i love the series and the book was good but i see connor as a bad boy not following orders playing the tough guy and saying love isn’t for him so i was excepting so much more from his book and i feel so let down after reading it. It just not what i was excepting from Connors book.

I would love The Vampire and The Virgin. Oh my gosh I can’t help but love all the scots from this series, and i forgot to mention Jean-Luc. I can’t wait to get my hands on Vampire Mine! but I’ll probably have to wait a while since I’m in the UK but I know the wait will be worth it … Ian so far is my favourite funny and so unbelievably seductive and Connor well that’s another story he’sthe stoic guy who is all mushy inside and i can’t wait to see his mushy side. the best heroine so far has to be Lara she is in one word awesome! But don’t get me wrong i love all the hero’s Carlos, Phil, Roman, Angus, Jean-Luc, Ian, Jack, Austin, Robby and everyone else!

The book that I would like to have is Eat Prey Love again, because when my husband and I moved back in november I put my book up and I haven’t been able to find it yet.

Kerrelyn Sparks is my favorite paranormal author, although I have many more she at the top of my list. When ever I’m checking online to see if there are any new books coming out i check hers first and when i found out last year that she had another book coming out i wasbeside myself.

My favorite hero is Ian because he had to endure so much to obtain his personal apperence, so that everyone would think that he was just a 15 year old boy. I think that in his mind if he stayed the way he was, he would have to keep trying to prove himself worthy. At work, in love, and just around people in general.

Jean Luc, is my next favorite because he is noble, loyal, a terrfic fashion designer that can also think outside the box. one who can see that beauty isn’t just a size zero, and thinks a woman with curves is beautiful and sexy. So it was a tough toss up.

I read Kerrelyn’s books right after I had read Lynsay Sands. Lynsay’s books were so fantastic with her sense of humor and her different take on vampires. I saw that she endorsed Kerrelyn’s books and I fell instantly in love with them. I have all of them except Vampire Mine so would like a copy of that one. My favorite is a tie between Angus & Connor. They have such honor and an appeal that is unmatched. Other authors I like are Kresley Cole, Karen Marie Moning, and Lara Adrian. But when Kerrelyn’s books come out they are the ones I read as soon as they arrive. I have gotten several friends hooked on her writing. She inspired me to try writing as well. I write the titles of her upcoming books on my calender with a big read heart around them.
Thanks Kerrelyn for hours of love, adventure and laughter.

My favourite paranormal author is Kerrelyn Sparkes. I had never really read any paranormal books before and when i read the Love at Stake series i just fell in love with paranormal romance. I now have been reading other authors work, but for me it has always been where you start that makes it memorable.

My favourite Hero probably has to be Ian McKay. It has been fascinating seeing how he changes from book to book, and the pain he endured to finally look like the man he is on the inside. Makes you see how exceptional he is.

I would like to have Vampire Mine. I have to say that i really don’t have a favorite paranormal author because it would be really hard to chose between Kerrelyn Sparks and Lynsay Sands. Both writers are so amazing. So for heroes, my favorite hero in Kerrelyn’s books is Angus McKay. In his book Be Still My Vampire Heart I just loved is character, he was funny and sensitive and i just loved how much he love Emma. My hero for Lynsay Sands would have to be Lucian Argeneau. In all her book and i his story he is a hard ass and bossy. But i loved how she shows that he says this softer side, like a burnt marshmallow sorta. I like both of there authors because of how they tell the story. I always know that when i open one of these books that i will laugh, cry, and fall in love with the characters every time.

    LOVE YOU KERRELYN AND LYNSAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both authors are just amazing at writing, they know how to tug at your heartstrings. They both make you laugh and cry, once you read their books you just can’t stop.

I absolutely love Kerrelyn Sparks books 😀 I used to have a copy of How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire but I let a friend borrow it and it never returned 🙁
I would love it if I could win a copy of it and add it once again to my collection. Other than Kerrelyn I would say that Nora Roberts is always an excellent read.
    Thanks for this opportunity 😀

Kerryln I absolutely adore your books especially the Love at Stake series. You hooked from book one “How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire”. In the past my list of paranormal authors were Edgar Allen Poe & Ambrose Bierce. This century I have added black humor which are yourself and Darren Shan. You both write unique books with a twist!

I would like winning Vampire Mine. I have read only the first book in the series, because I am missing the second one and have some more of the others. I did like it, the originality and the humor of the story.

My favourite paranormal author has to be Christine Feehan, though I do have a lot of them.

I love Kerrelyn’s books and I am excited to get my copy of “Vampire Mine” to read Conner’s story. The “Love at Stake” Series has been one of my all time favorite series… Since I have every book already…(most in eBook format)…If I won I think I would like the original first book…”How to marry a Millionaire Vampire”….thanks!

I would love a copy of How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire.
Some of my favorite paranormal authors (so hard to choose one!) are: Nalini Singh, Larissa Ione, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and of course, Kerrelyn Sparks. All of these authors created unique twists to the standard vampire/demon/shapeshifters story, so I really enjoy the fascinating stories!
I have only read Eat Prey Love from the Love At Stake series, and I loved it. I would love to start the series from the beginning.

Since I already have all the other Love at Stake series, I would love to have a copy of Vampire Mine.
As to favorite vampire hero, I had have to say Roman, he found a way to have his vampirism and a family. Definately tops in my book.
As to favorite vampire author, I think its a tie between Kerrelyn and Lyndsay Sands. Both have humor along with the romance and blood.

Kerrelyn Sparks is my all time favorite author for paranormal romance books. She adds romance, desire and humor to these books that I feel like I am in the story watching the characters. I can really feel a part of the book. I now have my best friend hooked on her books. I have Vampire Mine on e-book but would love to have the hard copy too. It’s funny I started reading this series with Vampire and the Virgin and ended up reading the series backwards but then fell in love with them, so I restarted to read the series from the beginning up to the latest one.

I just finished Vampire Mine and I have to say Connor is now my top favorite Hero. I love how he always mocked and gave all the others crap about falling in love and how he fell the hardest. How he was hard and bitter on the outside but deep inside he was tortured but had such a soft, loving side. I love Scottish and Irish men so I fell in love with these books. I still haven’t found anyone who can top her stories.

I love the whole series so it is hard to just pick three, but if I must pick three I would love to win Vampire and the Virgin, All I want for Christmas is a Vampire and Vampire Mine.

I would love All I want for Christmas is a vampire, I love Ian, he suffered so much and his story was amazing! I love all of the series, just finished Connors story. Another fantastic roller coaster ride. I knew Connor had been hurt sometime in his past. He deserved love.
Other authors I read are Christine Feeha, Jeanine Frost, Lynsay Sands,Kresley Cole to name a few. Kerrelyn, your sense of humor and emotions are addictive.
    Thank u

Vampire Mine is the book I would want because it is the only one I don’t own already. I have read MANY paranormal works by other authors but Kerrelyn Sparks, is the best paranormal author I have ever read! You are my absolute favorite hands down!

I have always had an interest in Scotland, and since I have begun reading the series I have learned so much about the history of battles and such that are mentioned from my own research. It has been a real blast.

Of all the heroes in your novels Connor has been my favorite. There is something about the feel of his character, and the way Kerrelyn uses him very limitedly in the other books. He is like a giant mystery that I am sure readers everywhere are dying to unravel. Now that the new book is out, it is very exciting to finally get the chance to “discover” Connor.

I would love How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire. I have all the books in the series and I’ve yet to be dissapointed! I have tons of favorite paranormal authors, Kerrelyn of course, along with Nalini Singh, Lori Foster, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, Lynsay Sands, Maggie Shane, Lora Leigh, J.R. Ward and Shelly Laurenston to name a few.

I love all the heroes in the Love at Stake series, but Roman would have to be one of my favorites. His hilarious encounter with VANNA and subsequent trip to the dentist is classic, his struggle to accept himself and regain his faith, moving, and his love for Shanna so powerful it takes my breath. Thank you for writing such an awesome series, keep them coming!!

I would love to win Vampire Mine. Kerrelyn is one of my favourite paranormal authors, along with Jim Butcher, Kelley Armstrong, Chloe Neill, Lynsay Sands, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Annette Blair and Nalini Singh (stopping now or the list will become freakishly long!)

My favourite love at stake hero has got to be Angus at the moment, though it may well change. Gotta love a kilted Scotsman who’s that protective! My overall favourite hero though is Wren from Unleash the Night, soooo sweet 😉

The Love at Stake books are incredible so please please please keep writing them! 😉

I would love a copy of “All I Want for Christmas”. I read a lot of Urban Fantasy so picking one author is hard. If I had to pick one, right now I would go with Ilona Andrews for the Kate Daniels series. I think that my favorite hero, though, is Harry Dresden. I like the humour and snappy quips when he runs into problems.

I would love to have All I Want for Christmas is a Vampire.

My favorite paranormal author would have to be Kerrelyn Sparks or Patricia Briggs. I just can’t choose between the two. The level of writing and telling a story puts them ahead of any author I’ve read.

I have read all of the Vampire at Stake books and my favorite hero is Ian. I love the way he flirts, and that rugged quality he has.

    Hi!

I would love a copy of All I Want for Christmas is a Vampire.

I don’t read many paranormal books anymore. Actually Kerrelyn Sparks’s books are the only paranormal books I’ve loved for quite a long time. So of course, Kerrelyn is my favorite paranormal author!

I loved every one of her characters, but I think my favorite hero would be Angus, perhaps because he was the first Scottish hero of the Love at Stake series! And Emma was perfect for him!

I loved Vampire Mine and now I’m really looking forward to Sexiest Vampire Alive! Thank you for all these wonderful books!

I would love a copy of Vampire Mine. It’s the only book in the series I do not own.
My favorite paranormal authors would have to be Kerrelyn Sparks, Lynsay Sands, and Hannah Howell.
Out of spark’s heroes, my favorite would have to be Connor! I haven’t read Vampire Mine yet, since I don’t own it, but I loved him from the beginning. The second would have to be Gregori. I have been waiting for these two’s stories for so long, I’m happy they are being released after each other!

I Would Love To Have Vampire Mine … That Is The Only Book Of The Love At Stake I Dont Have

I Would Have To Say That My Favorite Paranormal Author Is Kerrelyn Sparks …When I Read Her Books I Can Never Put Them Down

And For My Favorite Hero I Love All Of Them But I Would Have To Say My Favorite Is Robby Mackay Because All Of The Stuff He Went Through He Found Love And Instead Of Him Taking His Revenge He Didnt Kill Casimir Instead He Saved The Woman He Loves
