Once upon a time…the Blood Sorcerer vanquished the kingdom of Elden. To save their children, the queen scattered them to safety and the king filled them with vengeance. Only a magical timepiece connects the four royal heirs…and time is running out.

As the dark Lord who condemns souls to damnation in the Abyss, Micah is nothing but a feared monster wrapped in impenetrable black armor. He has no idea he is the last heir of Elden, its last hope. Only one woman knows—the daughter of his enemy.

Liliana is nothing like her father, the Blood Sorcerer who’d cursed Micah. She sees past Micah’s armor to the prince inside. A prince whose sinful touch she craves. But first she has to brave his dark, dangerous lair and help him remember. Because they only have till midnight to save Elden.

Lord of the Abyss is part of the Royal House of Shadows continuity from Harlequin Nocturne. The first three authors who participated in the series are Gena Showalter, Jill Monroe and Jessica Andersen.

Review:

Lord Of The Abyss is the final book in a four-part series but it can be read on its own, in fact, I only read books 1 and 4 in the Royal House Of Shadows series.

I LOVE Nalini Singh’s books because of her consistently engaging story lines, with characters you feel are part of your family by the end of the book.

Liliana’s and Michah’s story is the latest romance with a twist from NS. Liliana is not your typical beauty and she has suffered tremendous abuse from her father, the evil Blood Sorcerer, yet Liliana’s heart remains pure and her commitment to restoring the Kingdom of Elden unwavering.

Micah went from a happy, innocent child, truly pure of heart, to Lord of the Abyss, taking condemned, evil, souls to the Abyss. Due to his time in a hibernation of sorts beneath the Black Castle, Micah retains the forthright nature of a child while exhibiting the demands of an adult male.

This type of honest between a couple was refreshing and led to some funny moments in the book. Micah can be intimidating, after all he is the Guardian of the Abyss, but those he cares for are protected and loved the way he knows how to.

Liliana brings a new perspective to Micah and his two friends in the Black Castle even as she tries to breakthrough his mental block against his childhood in Elden in time to save the kingdom and Micah’s family.

Micah meanwhile, teaches Liliana honesty is the best policy while showing her outer looks are not what hold or draw his attention and love.

Excerpt:

“Tell this tale, Liliana. I promise, whether it is good or bad, you won’t have to spend the night in the dunhgeon.”

Liliana didn’t trust that gleam, her heart thudding against her ribs as her hands turned damp. “What are you planning to do to me?”

He smiled. And she caught her breath at the heart-breaking beauty of him. Now she understood, now she glimpsed the child he must have been, the one who had won a kingdom’s heart. However, his words were not those of a child but of an intelligent, dangerous, man.

“You must imagine what the Guardian of the Abyss might do to you.”

It took every ounce of her will to find her voice again when all she wanted was to stare at him, this lost prince who had become a dark stranger…
