Mercy Thompson series Book #7 – Frost Burned

Blurb: Mercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman – the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack – has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more. After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam – or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted. Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from the most unlikely of allies: the vampire seethe.

Mercy Rating:  A-

Thoughts: Frost Burned was a bit of a twist in this series for me – the writing style is just a little different from previous books, which is both a good and a bad thing.  I liked getting a little bit more insight into Adam – and from his point of view.  I’m not sure I cared for the different twist in how it was written (1st versus 3rd person) or that all of sudden now in book number seven in the series it’s changing like that.  I almost would rather have had a few books written in Adam’s POV – similar to Curran getting his own in Ilona Andrews’ popular Kate Daniel series.  Overall, it just felt different than previous books.

I also liked that we get to see Mercy and Jessie together as officially family – finally.  I’m still kind of irked at most of the Pack, however, for their attitude towards Mercy.  I also find myself gradually getting a bit irritated for not finally just laying down the law with them.

Back on familiar territory though, once again Mercy has to save her small little corner of the world and all of the people she holds dear to her heart.  Also per usual, she is kicking a$% and taking names.
