Author: Jaci Burton

Genre: Contemporary

To get what you want you have to move fast.

Gray Preston was born into money, but he’s built his racing empire on hard work and muscle. Now, with millions of fans, his senator father sends one of his aides, Evelyn Hill, to elicit Gray’s help in garnering votes for his upcoming national election. Gray wants nothing to do with his estranged father’s campaign, but Evelyn can be pretty persuasive. She’s willing to learn about racing, and maybe even get a little dirty.

Evelyn’s number-one goal is politics, which makes working with Gray difficult, because his only passion is fast cars. As she and Gray spend time together, he teaches her about the sport he loves, and she learns a lot about the man behind the wheel. The more she learns, the more she wants him. But any desire that threatens to derail the carefully laid plans for her future is a dangerous one.

With the passion Gray and Evelyn share running hotter than either imagined, one of them is going to have to compromise, or run the risk of losing more than their hearts.

From the moment Grey showed up on the page in Thrown by a Curve I was intrigued by him and his story. And what  a story it was.

For the last couple of books I’ve felt like  something was missing, I wasn’t sure what just that I hadn’t liked them as much as I’d enjoyed other books in the series. As I got into this book I knew what had been missing in the other books. Amazingly hot sex.

The sex in this book is the Jaci I’ve come to expect and enjoy as it was hot enough to scorch my eye’s.

Evelyn is heroine who doesn’t let anyone get in the way of her goals, and Grey isn’t falling in line with her goals so calls in for reinforcements knowing he won’t be able to say no to his mom. Once she gets him on board and she starts to get to know him things begin to change for her and in ways she wasn’t sure she was ready for those changes. She also has funny views about her sexuality that Grey delights in changing.

Grey wants nothing to do with his dad’s campaign because of issues stemming from his childhood. He’s created a life and a career he wants and not what his dad wants. So having a member of his dad’s staff in his trailer and in his life is wrecking havoc on him. But more than that she intrigues him. As Grey and Evelyn begin to transverse a relationship Grey has to confront his past with his father, and resolve it so he can have a future with Evelyn.

One of the things I like about Jaci’s stories are that they are simple love stories with two people falling in love and trying to figure out they can make their relationship with. There isn’t a lot of angst, but there is a lot of scorching hot sex, and two successful people who live different lives falling in love and then needing to figure how to make their relationship work beyond the present.

The simplicity of this story made it page turner for me, and read it straight through.
