Series:  Night Prowler Book #3

Author:  J.T. Geissinger

Genre:  Romance

BlurbSECRETS…In the hidden world that exists beside our own, a mirror world of ancient magic and elegant deceptions, a world of people who are so much more than they first appear, a war is brewing. Most of these Gifted people—the Ikati, a savage, sensual race of lethal predators—are content to hide behind human smiles, disguising their splendor in order to survive. But others are discontent. And they will hide no longer.

BETRAYALS…Eliana lives for two things only: vengeance on the man who killed her father and seeing her father’s dream of living in the open with humans come to pass. But that dream is far too dangerous for The Hunt, a group of elite Ikati assassins with one objective: eliminate her before she can expose their secrets to the world.

SEDUCTION…Demetrius is haunted by the memory of the woman he once loved. He will risk everything to save her from the killers on her tail…and convince her, before the ancient walls between two worlds crumble, that only together can they defeat their real enemy, a brilliant, cunning traitor far more deadly than either of them can guess.

Thoughts:  To be honest, the blurb from the book sounded interesting, but I was still a bit hesitant about starting the book since I knew coming into it that it was book three in a series.  Having never read the author before – and neither of the first two books of the series(it is preceded by Shadow’s Edge and Edge of Oblivion), so I had alot of misgivings. I finally just forced myself to sit down and at least attempt to read it, and hope it wasn’t one of those that you feel dreadfully lost in if you haven’t followed along from book one.  And boy, am I glad I did!

There was none of those feelings whatsoever, and the world the author brings us into is utterly captivating.  Once I got started, I was hard pressed to put it down.  In fact, I devoured it in a matter of hours!  There were captivating characters, interesting twists on the paranormal genre, mystery/suspense, drama, and romance.  In this book, I have discovered a new favorite author – one that will be on the list I keep to alert me of any of their new works!

Geissinger has a real flare for making the characters larger than life.  All the characters were described so well, and with such emotion that they fairly leaped off the pages!  Demetrious was such a powerful character, and some of the things he said really tugged at my heartstrings.  His emotions for Eliana really came through, and some of the things he said to her really had you catching your breath at the romanticism of it.  Eliana was a strong female, yet also oddly vulnerable.  She reminded me a little of Faythe from Rachel Vincent’s Shifters series.

Nothing happens quite the way you expect, and all the twists and turns leave for an excellent novel.  I will be going back and reading the previous ones in the series, as well as anxiously awaiting the next in the series, Edge of Darkness, out December 10, 2013!
