Re-Release Tour: Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James

Long Hard Ride - New CoverTitle:  Long Hard Ride

Series:  Rough Riders Book #1

Author:  Lorelei James

Genre:  Erotica/Romance

Blurb:  One lucky woman is in for the ride of her life with three sexy cowboys…
During summer break, wannabe wild woman Channing Kinkaid is offered the chance to shed her inhibitions and horse around on the road with a real chaps-and-spurs wearing rodeo cowboy.
From the moment Colby McKay—bull rider, saddle bronc buster and calf roper—sets his lust-filled eyes on the sweet and fiery Channing, he knows she’s up to the challenge of being his personal buckle bunny. But he also demands that his rodeo traveling partners, Trevor and Edgard are allowed to join in their no-holds-barred sexcapades.
Although Channing secretly longed to be the sole focus of more than one man’s passions, all is not as it seems with the sexy trio. Colby’s demand for her complete submission behind closed doors tests her willful nature, and his sweet-talking ways burrow into her heart.
Will Colby have to break out the bullropes and piggin’ string to convince this headstrong filly that the road to true love doesn’t have to be as elusive as that championship belt buckle?
Warning: this story has tons of explicit sex, graphic language that’d make your mama blush, light bondage, ménage a trois, and—yee-haw!—hot nekkid cowboy man-love.

Thoughts:  I am a fan of Lorelei James, but I am not as familiar with her Rough Riders series.  At first, I thought this book was really going to hook me…it started off really well, and captured my interest immediately.  The draw and chemistry between Colby and Channing was intense and quick….it was his immediate ‘rule’ that his brother and his friend be involved in their exploits that it went somewhat downhill for me.  His desire for her just seemed to contradict his actions – he almost seemed to be trying to shock her into backing out of their affair, rather than trying to ease her into it.  The eloquence that I read and loved from her Mastered series is just missing here, and it left me feeling a bit bereft to be honest.  Sure, the hot sex scenes are there, and if that is all your looking for it delivers – but this one is missing the underlying emotional depth that I know Lorelei is also capable of.  There were hints and possibilities of it here or there, but it never really came to fruition in this story.  I guess she spoiled me with Bound, because it’s like comparing apples and oranges here.  This one was just lackluster in comparison.  This one was just okay, but it comes nowhere close to the scale in comparison as the first book in her Mastered series did for me.  Not even close.
