Review: The Talented Mr. Rivers

the talented mr riversTitle: The Talented Mr. Rivers
Series: End of the Line bk 2
Author: HelenKay Dimon
Genre: Romantic Suspense, LGBT

As the son of an international crime lord, Will Rivers only inherited one thing after his father died: trouble. The Pentasus organization deals in kidnapping and murder, and Will wants no part of the power grab that’s tearing leadership apart. But the only way he’ll be able to escape is with some help from his former bodyguard, Hunter Cain, whose sculpted body and brooding looks keep Will awake at night. Somehow, Hunter has resisted the tension between them . . . until, suddenly, he gives in.

As a German intelligence officer working deep undercover, Hunter has a very good reason to keep Will in the dark about his identity and his intentions. Although the sex is hot, Hunter’s true feelings are a growing liability. Now the only way to save Will from his old life is to push him deeper into danger. But when two strong men are each determined to protect the other, the heat isn’t just combustible—it’s a firestorm.

Thoughts: I’ve decided that it doesn’t matter what HelenKay Dimon writes I’ll read it.

When Mr and Mr Smith ended I’m not going to lie I really wanted to hack into Dimon’s computer and discover what she had planned for the mysterious Hunter (who Fisher hated with everything in him because he’d once had sex with Zach) and the youngest River’s sibling. I have to tell you when I finally got my hands on it, it wasn’t anything like what I’d expected.

It was better.

Reading Hunter’s back story took me back in time to when I was in high school and watching as the world I knew changed forever. Being safe in the United States the impact of the fall of communism in Europe didn’t really affect me, nor those around me, so seeing it through Hunter’s eyes was eye opening. And while he glossed over how it really impacted him to Will, you could tell it really did, and the fact he was willing to throw everything he’d worked for away to save Will tells us a lot about his character and how much he feels for Will.

Will took me by surprise…and I’m still not sure why. Growing up the way he did, I wasn’t sure if he was going to be a good guy or a bad guy, the only thing I knew for sure was that he had extremely strong feelings for Hunter and that he wasn’t sure what he was going to do about his family.

One of the things I love about romantic suspense is seeing harden military who take no prisoners and don’t let emotions rule them have to deal with their emotions oftentimes while battling the bad guys, and when it comes to writing these types of heroes Dimon is one of the absolute best. I’d go so far as to say she’s one of the queens of romantic suspense.

Grade A
