RomCon Tuesday

It is Tuesday again which means it’s time to talk about the authors coming to RomCon.  It is about 15 weeks away now, guess that means we need to start reading faster.   So here are a couple authors to look forward too.  Have you read anything of theirs, if so what have been your favorites?

Amanda McCabe: http://www.ammandamccabe.com/

Amanda wrote her first romance at the age of sixteen–a vast historical epic starring all her friends as the characters, written secretly during algebra class (and her parents wondered why math was not her strongest subject…)

She’s never since used algebra, but her books have been nominated for many awards, including the RITA Award, the Romantic Times BOOKReviews Reviewers’ Choice Award, the Booksellers Best, the National Readers Choice Award, and the Holt Medallion.  She lives in Oklahoma with a menagerie of two cats, a Pug, and a very bossy miniature Poodle, along with far too many books.

When not writing or reading, she loves taking dance classes, collecting cheesy travel souvenirs, and watching the Food Network–even though she doesn’t cook.

Amanda also writes as Laurel McKee for Grand Central Publishing.

I just finished her newest book “The Shy Duchess” and it was really good!  I will be running out, or at least going online, and getting more!

Thawing The Ice Princess…

With her golden hair and dazzling emerald eyes, Lady Emily Carroll should have her pick of suitors. Instead, her crippling shyness has earned her the Nickname “Ice Princess.”

Nicholas, Duke of Manning, isn’t looking for a bride, but he won’t pass up a stolen kiss at a masked ball.
With her blushes hidden, Emily lets her inhibitions go, only to find herself betrothed!  Now it’s her wedding night, and her new husband seems determined to thaw his ice princess and reveal her every secret…

An army brat born in England, Ann lived all over the UK in her youth. She grew up loving history, but majored in business, with history on the side. Now living in Canada, she has a husband and two lovely daughters and a Maltese Terrier called Teaser, who likes to sit on a chair beside the computer while she works.

During her successful career as a university administrator, the call of the past and the stories in her imagination brought her to a fork in the road. After writing her first novel in 2000, a never-see-the-light-of-day-effort, and then having her first book published in 2006, she decided to write full time in 2008 and hasn’t looked back.

She loves the Georgian era, and within that, the period known as the long Regency. She also adores happy endings. You will find her print books in bookstores in the month of issue, as well as on line where you will also find her e-books.

The newest release is on my Kindle waiting for me; hopefully I will get to it this week.

A Most Forbidden Attraction

Frederica Bracewell grew up under a cloud of shame. As an illegitimate child, she was treated by her uncle like a servant. It isn’t until she encounters the new gamekeeper that shy, innocent Frederica starts to feel like a true lady…

Lord Robert Mountford has been banished by his family. After a debauched existence, he revels in the simplicity of a gamekeeper’s lifestyle. Until temptation strikes! Frederica’s plain appearance and stuttering speech are a far cry from the ladies of the ton, but she may just be his undoing…and unmasking!

Deeanne Gist: http://www.deeannegist.com

After a short career in elementary education, Deeanne Gist retired to raise her four children. Over the course of the next fifteen years, she ran a home accessory and antique business, became a member of the press, wrote freelance journalism for national publications such as People, Parents, Parenting, Family Fun, Houston Chronicle and Orlando Sentinel, and acted as CFO for her husband’s small engineering firm–all from the comforts of home.

Squeezed betwixt-and-between all this, she read romance novels by the truckload and even wrote a couple of her own. While those unpublished manuscripts rested on the shelf, she founded a publishing corporation for the purpose of developing, producing and marketing products that would reinforce family values, teach children responsibility and provide character building activities.
After a few short months of running her publishing company, Gist quickly discovered being a “corporate executive” was not where her gifts and talents lie. In answer to Gist’s fervent prayers, God sent a mainstream publisher to her door who licensed her parenting I Did It!® product line and committed to publish the next generation of her system, thus freeing Gist to return to her writing.
Eight months later, she sold A Bride Most Begrudging to Bethany House Publishers. Since that debut, her very original, very fun romances have rocketed up the bestseller lists and captured readers everywhere.  Add to this two consecutive Christy Awards, two RITA nominations, rave reviews, and a growing loyal fan base, and you’ve got one recipe for success.

I have not gotten this one yet but it is in my list to pick up.

From the day she arrives at the Biltmore, Tillie Reese is dazzled–by the riches of the Vanderbilts and by Mack Danvers, a mountain man turned footman. When Tillie is enlisted to help tame Mack’s rugged behavior by tutoring him in proper servant etiquette, the resulting sparks threaten Tillie’s efforts to be chosen as Edith Vanderbilt’s lady’s maid. After all, the one rule of the house is no romance below stairs.

But the stakes rise even higher when Mack and Tillie become entangled in a cover-up at the town orphanage. They could both lose their jobs, their aspirations …and their hearts.

I just read my first Deanne Gist book, A Bride in the Bargain, and loved it!

Her dialogue kept me laughing, the characters (and chemistry) popped off the pages, and the plot kept me up late into the night.

I’m looking forward to reading more of her books very soon!

I read A Bride Most Begrudging first and fell in love, to this day it remains one of my favorite all time books. A Maid to Match is a wonderful book, too. I think I like it so much because I don’t live too far from the Biltmore House and having visited, could imagine every scene. Love the books!!
