The Shadow and the Star by Laura Kinsale

The Shadow is wealthy, powerful and majestically handsome, he is a man of dark secrets – a master of the ancient martial arts of an exotic distant land. Scarred by a childhood of shocking degradation, he has sworn to love chastely … but burns with the fires of unfulfilled passion.

The Star is lovely, innocent and nearly destitute, and drawn to him by a fevered yearning she could never deny – following her enigmatic ‘shadow warrior’ into a dangerous world of desire and righteous retribution.

REVIEW: Okay I am going to say it, I must be the only person that has read it and hasn’t liked it. I had such a hard time getting into the book that I when by page 75 I still couldn’t get into it I began to skim it hoping that at some point there would be something that caught my eye and would make me want to stop skimming and read from there on out. It never happened. I finally gave up and just read the last 15 pages. Figuring that maybe the ending would make me want to read the book without skimming.

Nope it didn’t happen. So I am sad to say that this is one book that will be going back on my shelf at pbs. I will try this author again. Just not this book.

This book was read as part of the Spring ’09 Reading Challenge…Read a book that has the word ‘star’ in the title.

I give this book a 2.5 out of 5.
