Suddenly One Summer by Julie James

suddenly one summerTitle: Suddenly One Summer
Series: FBI/US Attorney bk 6
Author: Julie James
Genre: Contemporary

Divorce lawyer Victoria Slade has seen enough unhappy endings to swear off marriage forever. That doesn’t mean she’s opposed to casual dating—just not with her cocky new neighbor, who is as gorgeous and tempting as he is off-limits. But once she agrees to take on his sister’s case, she’s as determined to win as ever—even if that means teaming up with Ford…

Investigative journalist Ford Dixon is bent on finding the man who got his sister pregnant and left her high and dry. He’s willing to partner with Victoria, despite the fact that the beautiful brunette gets under his skin like no other woman. He might not be looking to settle down, but there’s no denying the scorching attraction between them. Still, the more time he spends with Victoria, the more he realizes that the one woman as skeptical about love as he is might be the only woman he could really fall for.

Thoughts: It’s no secret that I love Jack (Something About You) and Kyle (About that Night) something fierce, and try as they might Nick, Cade and Vaughn just never hit the same level (in my mind) as Jack and Kyle.

Until Ford.

Yep, Ford gets to join Ford gets to join Jack and Kyle at the of James heroes for this reader.

Unlike the other books in this series Ford and Victoria have nothing to do with the FBI or US Attorney’s office other than Ford being friends with Cade and Vaughn through his best friend Brooke (Cade’s wife)

If you loved how Jack and Cameron reconnect in Something About You then you will LOVE what happens in the beginning of Victoria and Ford’s relationship –  or should I say non-relationship, just as much.

One of my favorite things about James characters is how likable they are, even if they don’t necessarily like each other in the beginning (which is what happens here).

Victoria has enough on her plate what with a full caseload and the panic attacks she’s suddenly plagued with that are so intense she’s seeing a professional about them. What she doesn’t need is a new neighbor that is extremely loud until all hours of the night.

Ford has his own issues going on, what with dealing with the sudden death of his dad who he loved and also hated, combined with worry over his sister. So he really doesn’t need a holier than thou new neighbor.

To say that the sparks flying between these two is intense is an understatement. Both of them have walls so high up around themselves, that letting anyone new in is extremely hard. When they end up working together though to help Ford’s sister, however cracks start to appear in both of their walls, and they go from wanting to irritate each other on purpose to being friends and then something so much more.

Really what more can I say about this book other than this…. once again James gives us characters who are so real we feel like we know them personally and turn each page for that moment when we know they are going to get the HEA they deserve.
