Sweet Valley Series

Francine Pascal

Now with this striking new adult novel from author and creator Francine Pascal, millions of devoted fans can finally return to the idyllic Sweet Valley, home of the phenomenally successful book series and franchise. Iconic and beloved identical twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield are back and all grown up, dealing with the complicated adult world of love, careers, betrayal, and sisterhood.

As soon as I saw that this book had been written I knew that I had to read it. The Wakefield twins were a huge part of my youth. When I got my copy of the book I ignored every thing and sat down and read it. I finished in a couple of hours. I have to say that I liked it.

Was it what I was expecting? A little bit yeah, but only because I had recently talked to Francine about the book so I had a feeling that it wasn’t going to be what everyone else was expecting. From what I had gleaned Elizabeth and Jessica were not speaking because Elizabeth was not just mad but furious with Jessica. I so get this, between my sisters and my sisters in law I have 6 sisters. Of those six sisters I speak to four. I get the sister dynamic. Add to that I am a mom of twins and I get that there are things that hurt so much more when it is the other half of you that has done the hurting.

Everything in this book made complete sense to me on some level or another. Without giving away anything the changes in our favorite characters are ones that can and do happen in real life. Think about it, are any of us the same as we were back in high school? I certainly hope I’m not. The same holds true to Elizabeth, Jessica, Todd, Steven, and Bruce. Just as we can look at some of friends facebook pages and go huh? or yeah I so see you doing that, I saw that with these characters.

Other than the really cheesy love scene at the end I have to say this is a book that I will read again and have already had requests from various friends an sisters to pass it along so that they can read it and reconnect with these characters. The writing style is the exact same and it felt like I had picked up one the books back when I was in middle and high school. I felt the last twenty years fall away as I was once again caught up in their lives.

If you are expecting the gang to be the same as they were in high school you will be sorely disappointed in this book, however if you read this understanding that they are now adults and are living life as twenty somethings and all that that encompasses then you will enjoy catching up.

Grade B/B+

If you read this series who were your favorite characters? Was their one storyline that you liked more than others? What do you think has happened to the gang? If you have read this book then please use generalities when talking about it, nothing specific as the author has asked me to not post any spoilers as she wants those that loved the series to discover this book’s secrets on their own.

One lucky commenter will receive a copy of this book.

Wow, what a question. The character I loved beside the twins? You do know that it has been ages since I followed the series? I think the geeky boy, he was a waiter or busboy or something. Sorry, really do not remember his name, but I can see him in front of me.

I am looking forward to reading this one. Just like a real-life reunion, you want to know what happened to the people you went to school with.

I grew up reading SV and pre-ordered the new book and it was in my hands on delivery day. I read it within a few hours. If i win this one it will be for my BFF Tierra that Also love SV. We used to play barbies and reenact the SV stories from the books. It was so much fun and it was the best. My personaly fave character was Jessica. I admired the twins relationship. Loved this book! Hope to win it for my BFF!

I haven’t read this book yet but am dying to. I grew up reading the series and owned an entire shelffull of them. As opposed to a storyline I really enjoyed the “saga” novels that traced the family history of the Fowlers, Patmans and Wakefields. Also, Elizabeth was always my favourite character!
