Tempted by Elisabeth Naughton

Title:Tempted

Series: Eternal Guardians bk 3

Author: Elisabeth Naughton

Genre: Paranormal

DEMETRIUS—He’s the hulking, brooding warrior his fellow Guardians avoid. Too dark. Too damaged. And given his heritage, he knows it’s best to keep everyone at arm’s length.

Isadora is missing. The words pounded through his head like a frantic drumbeat. For her own protection, Demetrius had done all he could to avoid the fragile princess, his soul mate. And now she was gone—kidnapped. To get her back, he’ll have to go to the black place in his soul he’s always shunned. As daemons ravage the human realm and his loyalty to the Guardians is put to the ultimate test, Demetrius realizes that Isadora is stronger than anyone thought. And finally letting her into his heart may be the only way to save them both.

When an author like Angie Fox has a quote on the cover of the book I’m about to read, comparing the author to Sherrilyn Kenyon and Patricia Briggs, I have high expectations.  Thank goodness Elisabeth Naughton delivered!  Tempted, the third book in the Eternal Guardians series, is truly delicious. The Eternal Guardians, aka the Argonauts, are brooding warriors, keeping their world safe from daemons.  Unfortunately for them, they live for centuries and their only hope for happiness is to find their soul-mate, but Hera has cursed them to only have one soul-mate and she will be the worst possible choice to pair up with.

Demetrius is the meanest, rudest, and baddest of a group of hardened Guardians and his biggest pet peeve is everything about Princess Isadora. He does everything he can to stay away from her and when he is near her, he says anything to make her feel bad about herself.  He even went so far as to say “I won’t marry that!” in front of her when told by the king that he had to marry her, in an earlier book.

Isadora thinks she  is about to be forced into an arranged marriage with a Guardian and will do anything to get away, so when her maid brings her a calming drink, she is too distracted to realize she is being drugged. She gets kidnapped by witches and taken to a stronghold to be turned into a vessel for Atalanta, the Guardians evil nemesis.

When Demetrius finds out Isadora has disappeared from the palace, he drops everything to find her. He even accepts aid from Orpheus, a rogue that he can’t stand, to track her down and save her.  Somehow Demetrius and Isadora end up on Pandora, an island full ancient monsters, alone together.  The way their love unfolds and how they learn to trust and rely on each other is heart breakingly beautiful.

I love this series and I’m excited to see who the next hero is! My vote is for Orpheus.
