That Thing Called Love by Susan Anderson

Title: That Thing Called Love

Series: Razor Bay bk 1

Author: Susan Anderson

Genre: Contemporary

He’s the last man on earth she should want…

For a guy she’s fantasized about throttling, Jake Bradshaw sure is easy on the eyes. In fact, he seriously tempts inn manager Jenny Salazar to put her hands to better use. Except this is the guy who left Razor Bay—and his young son, Austin, who Jenny adores like her own—to become a globetrotting photojournalist. He can’t just waltz back and claim Austin now.

Jake was little more than a kid himself when he became a dad. Sure, he’d dreamed of escaping the resort town, but he’d also truly believed that Austin was better off with his grandparents. Now he wants—no, needs—to make up for his mistake. He intends to stay in Razor Bay only until he can convince Austin to return with him to New York. Trouble is, with sexy, protective, utterly irresistible Jenny in his life, and his bed, he may never want to leave…

I am not a huge fan of Susan Anderson and I have to say when I started this book I had absolutely no expectations and wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book. So I was pleasantly surprised when I liked this story.

Both Jake and Jenny are characters with not pleasant backgrounds but how they both reacted to events when they were teens determined what happens when they are adults.

There is a lot going on in this book regarding Jake. Not only is he finally stepping up to take care of his son who he last saw as a baby, but he is also becoming friends with his older half brother who made his life a living hell when they were children. And then there is his reaction to Jenny the woman who has been taking care of his son for the last couple months.

Jenny on the other hand has been perfectly content and happy with her life and trying to become Austin’s (Jake’s son) permanent guardian. She loathes Jake because he has ignored Austin his entire life. Being attracted to him is not in her plans.

One of the things I really liked about this book and I didn’t think I would was that we also get Austin’s perspective not only about his dad but his life as well. As a parent of sons a year younger than Austin I really liked how she portrayed him as it was true to a 13 year old boy.

Like I said at the beginning I was pleasantly surprised about this book, and went in not expecting to like and ended up loving and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
