Series:  Hearts of the Fallen Book #1

Author:  Kendra Leigh Castle

Genre:  Paranormal, Romance

BlurbThe road to Hell is paved with good intentions. At least, that’s how it seems to Sofia Rivera when her attempt to help a friend ends in a blood-soaked confrontation with creatures that aren’t even supposed to exist. With a group of rogue vampires determined not to leave a single witness to their violence hot on her heels, Sofia finds herself saddled with an immortal bodyguard—Phenex, the fallen Angel of Song.

While the vampire king roots out the corruption threatening to take down his underworld kingdom, Sofia will have to deal with a fallen angel whose dark beauty is often at odds with his ornery nature. Slowly, Sofia and Phenex give in to the strange attraction neither can deny. And as the darkness closes in around them, Phenex begins to wonder whether even the wickedest Fallen might find his own happyending…and his heart.

Thoughts:  Demon’s Song is the first novel in a new series, Hearts of the Fallen, with each telling the tale of angels who fell from Heaven.  The majority of the book takes place in a world called Terra Noctem, where the creatures of the night dwell.  From the beginning, I felt like I was missing the story of another of the character, Justin, the vampire king.  It didn’t detract from the story at all, but it did peak my curiosity, as this was supposed to be the first in a series.  After researching a little bit, I discovered that two other books by Castle also took place in the same world – Renegade Angel and Vivi and the Vampire, both of which are old Harlequin Nocturne novels.  The book was really good, and I enjoyed Phenex’s journey where he regained all that he had lost.  While you can jump right into the series without reading the prior two, I will go back and read them myself, simply because I am curious….:)

The series reminded me of a watered down version of Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter.  If you liked the Underworld series, you’ll definately like this one.  I look forward to reading more from the series with The Demon’s Desire, which is set to release later this year.
