Thoughts: I had never actually read anything by Diane Escalera before, and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. I loved Kayla’s daring and bravery in going after what she wants! She has had a crush for years on her brother’s friend, Nico, and they even shared a kiss once as teenagers. She hasn’t been able to stop thinking about him, and has come back home to win her man! Her job is made a little easier when Nico, after an unfortunate fall at work, finds himself in the ER where Kayla works. Unfortunately, he is in so much pain he doesn’t really remember her. Not letting that deter her, Kayla manages to track down his address, and pays him a visit. And the sparks begin to fly!
The characters are captivating, and you find yourself willing Nico to cave in and surrender to Kayla. He tries to resist her – first, because she is his friend’s little sister, and second, because he’s not quite ready to get seriously involved with anyone. But Kayla has come to him with seduction on her mind, and that is exactly what she does. I loved her character! Nico’s character is also very well written – he manages to walk the line perfectly between the good guy trying to do the right thing and the guy who is utterly attracted to a desirable female that he finds irresistible. And you can feel the desire between them leap from the pages!
But something I absolutely loved about this book was how it stayed realistic. The book doesn’t fulfill your typical happily-ever-after ending. Which in my opinion, and for this book, is a good thing. It adds to the appeal of it, rather than detracts from the story itself. I found it absolutely refreshing! I look forward to other books from Mrs. Escalera!
I will definitely be going back and reading Still Hot For You, Book One in this series!
