Series:  Ghostwalker Series Book #11

Author:  Christine Feehan

Genre:  Romance, Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Blurb:   GhostWalker Wyatt Fontenot knows the price he paid for the secret military experiments that gave him his special catlike abilities. After all, he left his bayou home a healer and came back a killer. While Wyatt and his GhostWalker brother Gator may have known exactly the sort of game they were getting into, Wyatt never anticipated where it would leador to whom.

The swamps hold many mysteries, but few are as sinuously seductive as Le Poivre de Cayenne. The woman the locals call Pepper is every bit as enigmatic as the three little girls she’s desperately trying to protect. From what, Wyatt is soon to discover. Right now Pepper needs a man like Wyatt. Passionately. But her secrets are about to take them both deeper into the bayou than either imaginedwhere desire is the deadliest poison of all.

Thoughts: Viper Game is book eleven into this series and let me say it would be difficult to just jump into as a new reader. There are multiple past characters mentioned, complex storylines, etc. that it is just difficult to jump into without a lot of backstory. With that being said, this series is well worth it, and I definitely recommend reading it! Viper’s Game features Gator’s younger brother, Wyatt, as he comes home at the bequest of his grandmother who has had a little trouble and was threatened at her home within the bayou. Of course, things are always far more complicated than they seem – and where the Ghostwalkers are involved there are always plots, deceptions, and ploys elaborated by Dr. Whitney are not far behind. Though, yet again, he is nowhere to be seen in this book – just more minions of his dirty work and more drawing out of the story. We also hear constant name dropping of both Gator and Flame – neither of which make an appearance – which was a bit disappointing.

With that being said, I felt like Viper Game added a breath of fresh air to this series. With the introduction of Piper, as well as the two “viper” children, along with a few other new characters – including an intriguing ‘black widow’, I feel that this was just the book to help kickstart this series back into high gear! I’ve always been a fan of the series, and while this one has not gone quite as stale as some of the others for me, the last few have sort of dwindled a bit. Viper Game I think begins to change that – or at least point it in that direction.
