Wow Sunday

As I was looking for something write for today I ran across some great quotes about freedom and sacrifice and our independence. As I was debating with myself which I was going to post I saw this one, and this one hit home.

I grew up in a town that every 4th of July the entire town would gather on Main Street for the parade. There was floats and the marching band from the high school and then there was our dads, uncles and grandfathers dressed in their military uniforms marching. We would then all go to our families homes where in my case we were at my dad’s parents house where we played games, had a bbq and my grandpa always always always made homemade ice cream. As it headed towards dusk the entire town would gather once more for the fireworks show.

To me that is what the 4th is all about. So when I found this quote I knew I had to share it. Melanie and I wish you all safe and happy holiday.

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.  You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.  ~Erma Bombeck
