Series: Montgomery Ink – book 4
Author: Carrie Ann Ryan
There’s nothing worse for a writer than missing a deadline. For Griffin Montgomery, his failure to do what he loves comes at a blow. He didn’t understand how it was affecting his life until his well-meaning family intercedes. His sisters have hired him a new personal assistant and he’s outraged—that is, until he sees who it is.
Autumn Minor is light on her feet and a bare memory for most people she meets. She does her best to blend in everywhere she lives, even if it’s only for a short period of time. Making sure no one truly notices her is the only way she’s survived this long. Only when she meets Griffin and the rest of the Montgomerys, she’s afraid she won’t be able to let go when its time to run.
Though the two begin a tentative but explosive relationship, they know it can’t last forever. Neither of them are made for the long haul when it comes to love and romance. When the demons from Autumn’s past find her and put both their lives at risk, Griffin will stop at nothing to protect her. In the end, though, he’ll be the one who needs a second chance.
Thoughts:
The story of Griffin and Autumn grabbed me from the beginning!
His life is in disarray professionally and personally because he cannot get past the writers block that he is experiencing. Autumn has befriended the Montgomery sisters not only because of her tattoos but because as Meghan’s new neighbor, she was there to help Luc when he was hurt at the end of book 3.
Autumn’s past is a mystery but as we all know from the Montgomery’s in past books, that doesn’t matter. They can sense good people and once they lay claim to you, you are family! Knowing that he will not accept help from them Griffin’s sisters and mom hire Autumn to help him get his house back in order.
In typical Carrie Ann Ryan style this read is laugh out loud funny in parts: “Well f*ck that. He was a writer. He didn’t have to be civilized.” “and look at that, he had a new tagline for the website his editor had wanted him to update a year ago.”
And of course I cried in parts as well! The storylines of the Montgomery patriarch’s cancer and their brothers alcoholism are so touching and written so realistically, it’s as if it’s happening within your own family.
The build-up for the stories that are coming next is exciting too! To see Jake and Maya and the possibilities and hints of a third person to sweep them off their feet… (I’m not buying the just friends thing!!) and the tension that is there between Sloan and Hailey… that boy better step up before she gets tired of waiting!
I feel like I say this after every one of the stories but this truly is my favorite so far!! Written in Ink flowed so well and made me fall deeper for this set of characters. They are a loving and dynamic family that has drawn others in that needed their love and support too and made them family as well. I think that this read could be read as a stand alone and enough of the back story is filled in where you would not be lost but as a fan of a series and especially this one – I say read them all!!!
I cannot wait for the next book! Thank you Carrie Ann for letting me read your words and for the privilege of spreading the love for a fantastic series!! – Jeananna
