Ashes of Midnight
Midnight Breeds bk 6
BY
Lara Adrian
Nothing will stop Andreas from destroying the vampire responsible for slaughtering his Breed brethren… even if he must use his former lover as a pawn in his deadly mission. Blood-bonded to his treacherous adversary, Claire can lead Andreas to the enemy he seeks, but it is a journey fraught with danger–and deep desire, unbidden desires. For Claire is the one woman Andreas should not crave, and the only one he’s ever loved. A dangerous seduction begins–one that blurs the line between predator and prey, and stokes the flames of a white-hot passion that may consume all in its path…
REVIEW: I am not gonna lie, when I found out that Andreas was the to be the next book in the series that came out I was excited. Ever since we first met him in Tegan’s book Midnight Awakening, I have wanted to know more about him. As he has appeared in the other books, we have seen a little more of him.
However the Andreas that we have seen in the other books is not the Andreas that is in this book. In the past Andreas has kept a very tight control over who he was, even to the point of not having what he desires most in the world. Claire. As we c0me to know Andreas, we morn with him the loss of his family, and also the past that he might have had with Claire if not for the actions of one very twisted man. A man that hates Andreas with everything in him.
Claire has no idea that her life for the past forty years has been because of the actions of one man, her breedmate, the man that will stop at nothing to destroy Andreas. Faced however with a choice, to ignore her heart and continue with the life that she has been living she decides to take back her life, and boy does she ever.
I have to say that I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Claire or not, but I have to admit that she quickly grew on me. She made the decisions that she did with the knowledge that she had, not knowing that it was all lies, set about to destroy Andreas, the man that she has never stopped loving.
This has become one of my favorite books in the series, as the Breeds continue to fight an enemy that they didn’t know existed, and has the potential to destroy the world, Andreas and Claire discover that the person that they are hunting has been helping this enemy for decades. They also both have the opportunity to start their lives over, and have the life that they were suppose to have, if not for the actions of another. Andreas also with the help of Claire able to let go of his hatred with the person that is responsible for the murder of Andreas family.
If I have a favorite part it is when they are leaving Germany and stay with Allies in Denamrk (at least I think it was Denmark), and we meet this ally, it is none other than the pregnant widow of someone that was lost in the bk Kiss of Midnight (not going to say who as it is a HUGE part of the story in that book). I loved her in the first book and was really sad when that happened. It was noce to see what happened to her after she left Boston, but also equally important in the advice that she gave both Claire and Andreas.
I give this book 4.75 out of 5 only because it took Claire so long to figure out the truth that had been staring her in the face for so long.
If you haven’t already checked out this series I would definitely check it out. Here are the books in the series. You can click on any book to read about this series.
