Author Interview: C H Admirand

We want to welcome C.H. Admirand on today to tell us a little bit about herself and her amazing Texas Cowboys the Garahan brothers. There is 3 of them in all Tyler (bk1) Dylan (bk2) and Jesse (bk 3).

TBRG: Thank C.H. for being here today!

CH: Thanks so much for inviting me ladies! I’m delighted to be here. J

TBRG: Who has been the biggest influence on your writing?

CH: I’m not sure if anyone has actually influenced my writing, but my two main writer’s groups RWA and NJRW are the reason I received the call. J

TBRG: What is the one thing your readers would be the most surprised to know about you?

CH: It’s really hard for me to talk about myself and what I’m doing…I’d much rather talk about our kids or our grandson! LOL. J

TBRG: Where is the one place you have always wanted to go, a place on your bucket list?

CH: Ireland…my Purcell ancestors have a castle in Tipperary…the pic is on my website. J

TBRG: What was the first romance book that you read?

CH: Lost Island by Phyllis A. Whitney

TBRG: Who are some of your go to authors, and what are you reading right now?

CH: Nora Roberts, Julie Garwood, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christina Skye. Right now I’m working on copyedits, so I’m re-reading Nora’s NIGHTSHADE…part of her NIGHTTALES compliation.

TBRG: If you weren’t writing and keeping us in books (thanks for that by the way), what would you be doing?

CH: I’d be baking…I’m a card-carrying carboholic, babysitting our darling grandbaby, or playing in the dirt in our gardens. J

TBRG: What is your guilty pleasure?

CH: Irish Whiskey and Funny Bones…unless there is Sweet Potato Praline Pie!

TBRG: Who is on your playlist when you are writing?

CH: I can’t listen to music when I write…but when I’m in the copyedit phase I listen to an eclectic mix: Beach Boys, Leslie Gore, Kingston Trio, Dropkick Murphy’s, Flogging Molly, Taylor Swift, Alabama…..the list goes on…

TBRG: Where do your ideas/characters come from?

CH: Dreams, everyday life, people I meet, arguments and conversations I hear in passing, the news….then there are the people I don’t like…Bwaaahahaha!

TBRG: Are you a planner or a fly by the seat author?

CH: Planner. I write the synopsis first, then once I start writing, the characters either go along with the plan or come up with their own. I tried ignoring them, but the story just didn’t feel right, so since then I always listen to what my characters have to say.

TBRG: How did you come up with The Secret Life of Cowboy’s series?

CH:  I was doing a favor for a friend at RT in Houston, she asked me to help her support her publisher and their models at a local club. I’d do just about anything for a friend, so I said yes…next time I’ll ask more questions first because we ended up at LeBare in Houston. I thought I was old enough to attend a ladies’ club—I was wrong! I was so embarrassed that it wasn’t until the last act—a tall cowboy came out on the stage that I started to pay attention and ask myself, now what would a real cowboy be doing up on that stage…and then I knew…to save the ranch! After that my creative side took over and I had the synopsis for the first book! On the plane ride home I had the beginnings of the brothers’ stories.

TBRG: Tell us about the series?

CH: It takes place in Pleasure, Texas…fictional town…just outside of the real Mesquite, Texas. The Garahan brothers are fighting to keep their 150 year old family legacy…the Circle G Ranch….and they would do anything to save it.

TBRG: Tell us about Tyler, Dylan and Jesse.

CH: The Garahan brothers are dark-haired, dark-eyed, handsome-as-the-sin Texas cowboys. They love their land, the ranch and stand by their word once it’s been given…which is why Tyler started working at the Lucky Star in the first place. J Tyler is the oldest of the three brothers and feels responsible for the ranch being in debt, Dylan is the quiet middle brother and Jesse is the youngest, with just a dollop more of the Irish charm.

TBRG: Tell us about Emily, Ronnie and Danielle.

CH: Emily and her cousin Jolene own the Lucky Star ladies’ club in Pleasure, Texas and are trying to hold out against the town’s busybodies who are trying to “clean-up” the downtown part of Pleasure and shut down their business. She bakes brownies when she’s stressed, and is wearing more of it than is in the bowl when she meets Tyler for the first time…she’s not ready for romance, but she cannot ignore the sparks zinging between them. Ronnie is a NJ transplant who figured Texas was just far enough away from NJ and her ex to start over. She’s not looking for love; especially with the handsome Irish cowboy who lassos her at the Lucky Star…she’s got the DelVecchio Curse to worry about. Danielle is hoping to get her feet back under her after her rodeo-riding husband took off with all of their money, leaving her and their little 3 yr old daughter, Lacy, high and dry. She’s not looking for another cowboy, but there’s just something about Jesse that she cannot ignore.

TBRG: Using 3-5 adjectives describe Tyler, Dylan and Jesse.

CH: Loyal, strong, brave, trust-worthy, and hard-headed

TBRG: Using 3-5 adjectives describe Emily, Ronnie and Danielle

CH: Fearless, loyal, stubborn, loyal, trust-worthy

TBRG: What are you working on now?

CH: I just turned in the script for BRING ‘EM BACK ALIVE m Western Romance comic that will be released in digital form March 1, 2013 and in special edition print May 1st at the Graphic & E-Book Expo at the Romantic Time Book Lover’s Convention in Kansas City. I’m just turned in the second book in my Small Town USA series: ONE DAY IN APPLE GROVE. Even as we speak, I’ll be turning in the copyedits for the first book in the Small Town series: A WEDDING IN APPLE GROVE and when I do, will get back to my wip, book 3: WELCOME BACK TO APPLE GROVE. Sooo…life is crazy-busy, but I love it!

Great interview, thank you! I particularly liked to read about how you came up with Tyler’s story. I haven’t read the novel but it really sounds great. I’m putting this series in my TBR pile.
