We’re excited to have Macy Beckett on today. It’s her first time here in our neck of the internet so lets all make her very welcome.
TBRG: Welcome Macy to TBRG, we’re excited to get to know you.
MB: Thanks for having me; I’m thrilled to be here!
TBRG: What is the one thing your readers would be the most surprised to know about you?
MB: There are a lot of misconceptions about the life of a published author. Many people (mistakenly) believe that a book deal equates instant fame and riches—insert hysterical laughter here—and they’d be surprised to discover how ordinary my life is. I’m not rich, I’m not famous, and I spend 90% of my time sitting at a computer in my yoga pants.
TBRG: Where is the one place you have always wanted to go, a place on your bucket list?
MB: I want to visit Tahiti and stay in one of those little huts built directly on the water. Let’s make me a bestseller so I can afford that, please. 🙂
TBRG: What was the first romance book that you read?
MB: I don’t remember, but I started reading romance at an inappropriately young age. There was no real “young adult” genre when I was a teen, so we had two choices: read up or read down. I chose “up.”
TBRG: Who are some of your go to authors, and what are you reading right now?
MB: Right now I’m participating in two ARC tours for debut YA novelists, (I also write books for teens), so I’m reading a lot of young adult books. I just finished THE FALCONER by Elizabeth May. When it comes to adult romance, I like funny contemporaries. Some of my go-to authors are Lori Foster, Carly Phillips, Christie Craig, Rachel Gibson, and Jill Shalvis.
TBRG: If you weren’t writing and keeping us in books (thanks for that by the way), what would you be doing?
MB: Eeep! I’d be teaching junior high. Don’t make me go back!
TBRG: LOL!! I’m a high school teacher.
TBRG: What is your guilty pleasure?
MB: I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I can’t resist “Duck Dynasty” and “Swamp People.” I have no clue why I enjoy these shows so much, but I can’t seem to quit them!
TBRG: Who is on your playlist when you are writing?
MB: It varies with each book, but I tend to listen to a lot of country music when I’m writing a Southern romance.
TBRG: How did you come up with the idea for the Sultry series?
MB: I went about it kind of backward. The characters came to me first, (June and Luke, from book #1), and I had to build a premise and a setting around them. Since I’ve lived most of my adult life in the South, that location came naturally.
TBRG: Tell us about the series?
MB: The tagline is “Welcome to Sultry Springs, Texas: where first loves find second chances,” and that sums it up well. I love to reunite couples who didn’t succeed the first time around and give them a happily-ever-after.
TBRG: Tell us about Surrender to Sultry.
MB: This is Colt’s story—he’s the wild-n-crazy deputy you met in the second book. Colt is the sheriff now, and he’s a changed man looking for a second chance with Leah McMahon, the preacher’s daughter.
TBRG: What do you want us to know about Leah and Colt?
MB: Their story runs a bit deeper than the other couples. They have a lot to forgive of each other, and because of that, I believe their “payoff” is the most rewarding. Theirs is my favorite book in the series. I cried—we’re talking THE UGLY CRY—when writing their epilogue.
TBRG: If Leah had to describe Colt using only 5 adjectives what would they be?
MB: At the beginning of the book, Leah would describe Colt as infuriating, wild, relentless, tempting, and criminally sexy.
TBRG: If Colt had to describe Leah using only 5 adjectives what would they be?
MB: Colt would only need one word to describe Leah: angelic.
TBRG: What are you working on now?
MB: Now that the Sultry Springs series has wrapped up, I have a new contemporary romance coming next year from Penguin. Much like my previous books, it will be hot and humorous with plenty of quirky characters. Goodreads link: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17316805-premarital-hex
I also have a sci-fi romance releasing soon from Disney-Hyperion. (Written under my super-secret true identity, Melissa Landers.) The first in the series is called ALIENATED. Goodreads link: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13574417-alienated
TBRG: Thank you, Macy, for dropping by today.
MB: My pleasure. Thank you for having me! Enjoy what’s left of summer, and happy reading!
SURRENDER TO SULTRY BY MACY BECKETT – IN STORES AUGUST 2013
How do you stay under the sheriff’s radar in a town that prides itself on knowing everyone’s business? Leah’s not sure it’s possible, but she’s determined to avoid Colton Bea for as long as she can. Seeing him again would be too heartbreaking—and she knows from experience his bone-melting kisses are way too tempting.
Colt still hasn’t forgiven Leah for her sudden disappearing act ten years ago. He may no longer be the hellion he was in high school, but he’s still willing to play dirty to get what he wants. And he won’t let Leah get away again. Armed with chocolate éclairs, a killer smile, and an adorable niece, he will make sure that this time the love of his life has plenty of reasons to stay.
