Series: Crossfire bk 1
Author: Sylvia Day
Genre: Erotic
Our journey began in fire…
Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness–beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…
Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds… and desires.
The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart…
From the minute I read the excerpt from this book I had to read to it. I didn’t know what it was about just that with an excerpt like that it was going to be good. I have NOT read the 50 Shade of Grey series, but I have had many discussions with authors and readers about them, and this book because they are similar in style. By style I mean that they are told in first person and that Gideon lives a BDSM lifestyle in that he is Dominant and needs a submissive sexual partner.
I read this book on the way home from Disney Land and I couldn’t put it down. The relationship between Gideon and Eva is not an easy one at all. In fact there are times when it is down right difficult to read. However one of the things I absolutely loved was that both of them were damaged.
There is a lot I can say about this book, but I feel if I say to much about it I will be taking away from the book. This book is told in first person and from Eva’s perspective.
One of the things that I absolutely love about Sylvia Day and her writing is that there is always more to her characters than you think there or assume there is. Especially Gideon. While on the surface he looks like a powerful man who has everything in control he isn’t. There are things in his past that have shaped him and made him the way he is. Some of those things he isn’t even aware of. One thing he knows for certain however is that he has to have Eva in his life and will do whatever she needs him to do so that they can be together.
Eva comes from a two different worlds. Her mother is a rich socialite who lives in New York and her dad is a cop who lives in CA. However her life hasn’t been easy. In fact she has had something really horrific happen to her that changed her life and brought her best friend Cary into her life.
As Gideon and Eva work to build a relationship that is healthy and stable they have a lot of things that they have to work through. His past, her past, Cary and his issues but they are willing to work through them so that they can be together.
This is one of those books that I’m glad I read and I can’t wait to see what happens next to Gideon and Eva.
