Lisa Marie Rice is a new to me author, and I have to say that if her other books are anything like this book then I will be hitting her backlist.
One of the things you never read about is an ugly hero, at least I haven’t ever read an ugly hero. But that is what Mac is, ugly. In fact it is something very matter of fact for him. He’s also a protector and man who wants revenge on the person who made him and his other teammates outlaws. They have built a Haven for those who want to escape life and disappear off the grid. And they have all the latest tech and gadgets a person could dream up.
Catherine is nothing like Mac. She has buried herself in academia and research because she can’t survive in the real world. Her abilities won’t let her. When she receives a new patient in her research lab she discovers more than she bargained for. At his instance she goes in search of Mac, to not only save him but to also save herself.
I really enjoyed how these two came together and then worked to save the person who had sent Catherine to find Mac. Mac trusts Catherine to listen to him when the time is right, and yet he also listens to her when she tells him what needs to happen because.
When you have heroes who are Special Forces you run the risk of having heroines who are either to independent or to whiny, and Catherine was neither of those. Mac was also not one of those heroes who has to have his way all time.
I do have to say that based off of the way this book ended I can’t wait to see what happens next and how she is going to continue this series. It has all the potential to be an amazing series.
