So today kicks off our Mercy Thompson Re-Read Blog Tour – started in honor of the newest release in this series, Fire Touched, and well respected book #9 in this series! I, for one, have to say that I am super excited – the Mercy series is in my absolute top favorite book series. Not only that, but it is a series I go back and read over and over again. Some of them hold a special place in my heart, and I will just go back and frequently skim over my most favorite scenes – others you simply can’t miss because each book tells important pieces in the overall life of Mercy. Thoughts: This is one of those special ones that I just love – in large part because it is the very first book in this series and the one that had me eagerly snatching up all the following books! You just can’t miss this one – it is the essential foundation that is the whole Mercy Thompson series. Not only are you introduced to many of the main characters within this ‘world’ – most of whom will make reappearances throughout subsequent books – but you are introduced to a world that doesn’t just stop with werewolves. A world that contains werewolves, walkers, vampires, fae, gremlins, giants, and things you have never even thought up in your imagination! And it is by far a premiere series at that – one that easily holds its own amongst the paranormal, urban fantasy genre.
Mercy is an intriguing character all on her own, but even more unusual is the fact that she is a walker who shifts into a coyote – who was raised in the midst of a werewolf pack. Needless to say, that helped Mercy learn to deal with things in…well, unusual ways. She may be smaller than wolf, may not fit in with the typical pack – but do not doubt that Mercy can hold her own. And will protect those she loves until her last dying breath.
This book opens with a young, newish werewolf showing up at Mercy’s garage – needless to say, the plot thickens and a mysterious plot is underfoot. All of the hoopla – winds up pulling Adam, Mercy’s next door neighbor into closer proximity to her, and brings about a bit of romance to the series. And Adam is not the only one with eyes for Mercy.
Really – what is not to love about this book? From the plot, to the world building, to the romance it is the perfect kick start to a captivating new series!
