We’re excited to kick off this years Holiday Recipe Exchange with a recipe from Alexandra Hawkins.
Apple Fritters
Ingredients:
3 Granny Smith apple
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 egg
2 tbsp brandy
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 oz (1tbsp) butter
1 pinch salt
1 tbsp of ground cinnamon and 1 cup of sugar for topping
5-6 cups of oil for deep frying
Preparation:
Peel and core apples. Cut into 1/2 inch slices and sprinkle with sugar and lemon juice.
Sift flour and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
Add milk and egg yolk, beat until smooth.
Add brandy and melted butter, stand for 30 minutes.
Beat egg whites to stiff peaks and fold into batter.
Preheat an 1.5 inches of oil in sauce pan or deep fryer to 360°F.
Coat apple slices with batter and deep fry in hot oil until golden brown.
Remove from oil to cooling rack.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture. Serve hot with ice cream.
