Why do I do this…

So this is post about me ranting…..

There are times when I look the various places online where I post things that I wonder why I bother. No one ever reads my posts and certainly don’t comment. So what is the point?? Do I do it so that I can get comments, or do I do it for myself?

When I started this blog it was for me personally as a way to track the books that I am reading. I then discovered the blogging world and fell in love. Now I wonder if I didn’t get caught up in the world of blogging and the need to have people visit my blog and comment on what I have written. So when I post about a book or a show I feel like no one really cares about my opinions on things so what is the FREAKING POINT???

So after venting my spleen so to speak on my ranting blog, I have decided that I am doing this blog for me, and no one else. If people want to read it and comment than that is okay, but I am no longer going to feel like a loser because no one has commented on my post, not just here but everywhere else that I post.

So from now on this blog is about me and the things that I enjoy.

Yes. I had started a “Journal” on AOL several years ago to help keep the family in touch with what was going on in our lives, but it quickly fell to the wayside (partially due to lack of response, but at that time I didn’t realize the importance of it so the lack of response bothered me). Last October AOL sunsetted their Journal pages and offered to transfer them to another site (I can’t remember if there were other options or not) so I thought I’d start it back up again. I tranferred them and then posted a new thing asking people if they thought it would be a good idea for me to pick it back up. The very few responses I got pretty much told me that if I do it, it should be for me and not just because I wanted responses (I think you were one of them :P). So that’s what I’ve been trying to do. I don’t get a lot of response sometimes (even on topics where I look for feedback), but it’s enough for me and I do it mostly to rant or fill people in. Do it for you 🙂 You’re worth it!

I know what you mean about not getting feedback from your comments – while I truly do not care about comments on my own blog, I do sometimes feel that when I comment on other blogs, or reply in forums, that I am a thread killer – mine is either the last post with no more responses, or it’s ignored… It’s a lonely feeling!! But on my own blog, it’s purely for me and I don’t even seek comments.

Of course, I felt I had to comment here since I do know what you mean and I couldn’t let that pass!!

LOL Heather I feel your pain!
I started blogging for the ROR challenges and slowly got my own blog going. I have a small following and a few people comment. There are times when I feel the same things you described, but came to this conclusion… 1. I do this for me
    2. If someone notices my posts thats good and if they feel the need to comment then that is Awesome too.
    3. I am a lurker who doesn’t always comment, so I shouldn’t get upset if others aren’t leaving me comments either.

So I just try to have fun with it and not get so stessed out about what I am writing and whether or not people are going to like what I write.

Aunt Rowena: I have thought about your comment some too, I always wondered if the commenters from my blog get my response to their comment, so sometimes I respond to let the person know that I am reading my comments and other times I just let slide by with out a response. But I do read all comments posted as they are sent directly to my email. I know I often forget to check the box “Email follow up comments to”.

I love reading all of your blogs btw!

thanks ladies…glad to know that I am not the only one….

I know that I haven’t been as diligent in reading other blogs these last couple of months as I have been busy teaching…I promise to be better in the future.

I hear you. I wonder sometimes if I’m the only one who even bothers to visit my blog. Or I wonder if I’m the only one who thinks I’m awesome and that what I have to say is intersting in the least. But You voiced my thoughts and feelings so eloquently. Thank You. I came by, to give you a blog award, and decided to post it here. So, yea you can find it here. http://justyouraveragecarpoolqueen.blogspot.com/2009/04/zombie-chicken-award.html

Same here. I’ve decided to post for myself because I enjoy it and not for anyone else. If they leave a comment so much the better.

Hi! It’s seems strange to comment on a message you posted such a long time ago, but I wanted to tell you that I discovered your blog last March and I like it so much that I decided to read your archives!
Most of the time I don’t know which comment I could post because I haven’t read the books you present, but it gives me great ideas, so thank you very much!
