Calen by Rie McGaha

Calen
My Soul to Keep bk 1

Rie McGaha

When Calen MacLeod begins having dreams of an ethereal beauty who beckons to him, he passes it off as just having an itch he hasn’t scratched in a long time. But when he leaves on a journey to find her, following the directions she’s given him in his dreams, he begins to doubt his sanity. And when he finds himself high in the Mackinaw Mountains in a secret fortress with unicorns and a pink and white castle, surrounded by women, each one more beautiful than the next, it’s a fantasy no man would want to wake up from. Calen’s life would be perfect, but there’s just one thing standing in his way: a 500 year old demon intent upon destroying Arianna, Calen’s new-found love, and her entire world.

REVIEW: When Rie sent me this book a couple of weeks ago, I knew that I had to read it, as I have read a couple of her books and really enjoyed them. However I had a pile of other books that I had to read before I could get to this one. Man am I wishing that I hadn’t waited.

Calen is one of those hero’s that we all secretly and not so secretly wish that we had in our lives. He lives in a time when honor, and strength are the most powerful form of currency. From the moment that I first read Calen I knew that I was going to like him. He has this need to protect others. He hates those that prey on others. He loves fircely.

Arianna is a woman that knows who and what she wants and isn’t afraid to fight for it. When she is first sent to Calen she knows that there is something special about him. Unable to physically aid him in his journey she does what women for centuries have done best, she gives of herself to him, in what ever way he needs.

This is a stroy that I could read over and over. It has everything that makes a good romance. I loved the heat, the emotions, the relationships between all of the characters. I can hardly wait to read the next book in the series and see what happens to Calen’s brother Caleb as his story begins in this book.

I give this book a 4.5 out of 5

If you have never read one of Rie’s books you should definitely check her out. Here are some of her other books.
