Five years after the Second Civil War ends, humans and otherborn – humanlike creatures with superhuman DNA – still struggle for peace. To ensure the continued rights of both, the FBI forms a Para-Ops team with a unique set of skills.
Leader of an Otherborn clan, half-breed vampire Knox Devereaux would do anything to find a cure for the anti-vamp vaccine slowly starving his people into extinction. When the FBI contacts him about leading a team of hand-selected Others on a mission to reclaim the stolen antidote, Knox accepts. His new assignment places him in direct contact with Special Agent Felicia Locke, the beautiful human he’s craved since their very first meeting.
As most of you know I am more of the historical/contemporary fan and Heather tends to stick to the paranormal/contemporary side. Although occasionally we just need a change and will cross into each other’s genres, this happened to be one of those time.
It is not often that I pick up a paranormal book but is seems that when I have I quickly get wrapped up in it, to the point that I can’t put it down – forget sleep or homework, shhh don’t tell my teachers. I even went so far last year that my top two favorite books happened to be new paranormal series. Well, I have found one for this year also. Chosen By Blood is one you have to run out and get! If you like books that include: Vampires, Wraiths, Weres, Psychics, or Others of any form. Than you will want to read this as it has just about everything in it.
The book is about a Para-Ops team who is put together to help the FBI locate a vampire antidote. The Vampires are withering away since a vaccine was created tainting human blood so it has no effect on them. Come to find out the vampires are not the only ones who are affected by this vaccine and the testing being done to find an antidote.
This is mainly Knox and Felicia’s story, and let me just say HOT! Knox knows his duty, which is to marry another vampire in order to procreate, this does not mean though that he cannot have a relationship with Felicia. Vampires don’t worry about things like that. Felicia on the other hand has a very different set of values and is not one who wants to share, full commitment or nothing at all. For years she is able to stay away, than they begin working on the Para-Ops team together. And the struggle starts. Will they be able to come to some sort of compromise or will they have to choose between duty and desire? Not only that but they will encounter surprises and betrayals along the way.
Chosen by Blood is so well written and the characters just pull you in to their struggles and triumphs, oh and you can’t forget the fact that it is STEAMY but really what would you expect with a gorgeous vampire.
You will close this book wanting more, and thankfully book 2 Chosen by Fate will be out this Fall, so we won’t have to wait long.
Because I LOVED this book so much I just have to share it.
What is it about a book that makes you want to read it? Are you a grab from the shelf and hope for the best or do you research first and shop with a list of wants?
One lucky commenter will win a copy.
Grade A+
A few times I will see a book that sounds so interesting that I will get it and “hope for the best” but most times if it’s not an author I’ve read before I will take the word of author that I already like. Sometimes it works out well sometimes not.
Hi Melanie (and the other BRGs! *Waving*) Thank you so much for the review and giveaway. It feels especially great knowing you’re not a huge paranormal reader. Thanks for giving mine a try! 😀 I’ll read my favorite authors, but a great cover and back cover blurb can suck me in try someone new!
What makes me want to read a book is mainly the synopsis of the story on the back of a book. But I will also be attracted to a book due to it’s cover and the sound of the title. It also helps if I’ve seen this book or author mentioned on promos from books/series I am reading or websites/blogs I visit regularly.
When it comes to picking out books I usually go to a store knowing what book I am there for. But I don’t go straight to that one book and leave. If I’ve surrounded by books, I cannot help but look around. Thats when the cover and title of books stick out to me and call my attention. And if I’ve seen promo’s of book/author before, I will remember and 9 out of 10 times I will take a chance and buy the book.
If I’m out shopping, then It’s the synopsis. It doesn’t matter if it’s a beautiful cover, great title or famous author, if the synopsis doesn’t ‘grab’ me I don’t buy it at the actual bookstore. But if I’m shopping online, then it’s different. I look at reviews and opinions of readers to decide. 🙂 . I usually buy more online, LOL, so I don’t have to be so judgemental on just a description.
I would love to read this book (great cover+synopsis+review!), please count me in if it’s open to international readers. 🙂
I am in a Kindle book club and I have two friends that we all read the same types of genres. So with that being said, I usually ask their opinion on what they’ve read and if it’s good and we have a scale we go by. 1-5.
I am going to Virna’s launch party and I can’t wait! 🙂
Glad you reviewed this, I’ve had this on my TBR for a while and looking forward to it. Covers grab my attention but blurbs are the make or break in terms of buying. Nowadays, I rarely buy without looking at reviews first.
How I choose books depends on how I am buying. If I have a discount coupon for a major book chain and don’t have something in mind already, I wait for something to jump out at me. I’ll probably buy based on the back blurb but I need to pick it up first. If books are spine out, it’s the title that has to catch me. If the cover is showing, the cover and maybe an endorsement by an author I like is what is going to get me to look further.
On-line reviews do influence my thinking. If I am shopping for e-books, I’m probably buying based on a review or following a series or author that I like. Reviews are just as likely to have me checking out the library, though.
Thanks everyone for stopping by, I am at work today but will try to pop in whenever I can. Thanks Virna for swinging by and also for the great book, you guys will love it. Just so you all know this is Virna’s debut print book, but make sure you check her out on Amazon where she has a couple short stories that are really great also.
Karla – the giveaway is open internationally, good luck.
Dawn – I am super jealous, wish I could go to Virna’s launch party! Hope you have fun.
I grab books and just hope for the best. If I have a recommendation from someone I trust, I automatically buy it. But sometimes I like to just browse and find books on the shelves that look good, or books that look good online if I’m shopping for new ebooks. Covers really help draw me in.
Oooh, I’m always on the lookout for new series. This one sounds fantastic.
I used to be the girl who spontaneously buys books off the shelf but since I found goodreads and the book blogging world, I’m a bit more picky. I do research and admit that ratings, reviews, and recommendations do influence my choices greatly. So these days I have a list of to-buy books on my phone in case I ever stop by a bookstore.
So glad the cover and blurb has caught people’s attention! CK, I love hearing I’m on others’ TBR lists!! Dawn, I’m so looking forward to meeting you in person. Melanie, wish you were closer but hopefully will meet up with you at a conference some time. 😀
With so many great reads out there and my TBR overflowing and teetering on it’s side, I’m the type to research. I read reviews from RT and various blogs. Also, it has to be a storyline that interests me if it is a new author. And yes, I do have my list of wants when shopping. However, these Para-Ops look right up my alley!
I read the blurb on the book, as well as read reviews on various sites. This gives me more information and helps me select a book that I know I will enjoy and appreciate.
This sounds like a book for me! I will check it out. Another new author for me. I don’t usually have much time to read new authors, as it is hard enough to keep up with the ones I already love and have on auto-buy. But sometimes a book, a blurb, or a review usually, just catches my attention and I want to read it.
Congratulations! Carol you are the winner of Chosen by Blood. Email me your address so I can get your book out to you. Thanks for stopping by our site and commenting.
