Contemporaries

First off let me welcome you to our new site we hope you enjoy it and will find lots of good information along the way.

So Heather and I have been discussing what we enjoy about contemporary books.

I personally love the books where I relate to the characters and it does not hurt to have some humor in them. But catch me in the right frame of mind and I love those FBI/Crime type books.  Some of my go to authors are: Carly Phillips, Susan Mallery, Erin Nicholas, Catherine Coulter (love the FBI series) and Kristin Higgins.

Heather likes to relate to either the character or story of the book and loves when she feels that she is with a long lost friend.  Of course she loves Nora (who doesn’t) and I am supposed to tell Kim that she is ready to have all her Nora books back.  She also enjoys Julia James, Carly Phillips, Christina Dodd, Sandra Hill, Julie Garwood.

I am sure we can both go on and on because there are so many to choose from but we will leave that up for your discussion.

One Commenter today will win – wait for it – books of course

We also asked a few of our favorite authors what their go to books or authors are right now and where do they go to relax and read.  Their responses will be posted over the next few days

Carly Phillips:   http://www.carlyphillips.com/ A few months ago I would have said I’m a true contemporary reader. Only. That’s still the case … without the only! I’ve recently strayed into a genre I never thought would hold any interest for me – paranormal.  It’s been a fantastic break from my normal reading and when I’ve devoured my contemporary authors and am waiting for a new release.  As for which authors, in contemporary – my fellow Plotmonkeys, Leslie Kelly aka Leslie Parrish, Julie Leto, and Janelle Denison … and also Toni Blake, Erin McCarthy’s racecar series, Victoria Dahl, Jill Shalvis, Rachel Gibson.  And now in my new paranormal phase, I’m devouring Nalini Singh, Meaghan Hatfield, Larissa Ione.  As for where? On my Kindle … wherever I can.  In bed usually since reading is a treat for when I can relax but in my car while waiting for the kids works too!

Erin Nicholas: http://www.erinnicholas.com/ I almost always go for contemporaries first, though I have favorites in historical, erotic, and paranormal too. I have a few go-to authors who always deliver for me but the two that first come to mind are Erin McCarthy and Susan Andersen. I have a big chair by my picture window that I love to curl up in with my Kindle! 🙂

Wonderful way to start the site — with Contemporaries! I would rather read them over anything else (but I do read others). Somehow I can relate more to characters and the situations and feel that I become a part of the storyline. My current favorite author is Toni McGee Causey and her Bobbie Faye series. While I enjoy the suspense and drama like everyone else, I also love it when they add whimsy or snarkiness to the story to break the tension. Ms Causey does it in spades for me. Reminds me of Janet Evanovich’s Plum series, which is my all time favorite. Also love Jennifer Crusie, Susan Donovan, Carly Phillips, Erin McCarthy, Linda Howard, Sandra Hill, Julie Garwood and more. I’m also always looking for new authors to delve into. Anyone have any suggestions?

@Bet Julia James and Kristin Higgins are great authors. I too love Sandra Hill and Julie Garwood. Jill Shalvis writes really good contemp books as well.

@Lisa way to get to the heart of this week I love it. I think the only reason my sister shows up on here is all the free books she tries to win.

    Heather,

You can have some of your Nora books back, but not all. I am still reading them! And I come on here not just for the giveaways, but also to hear what you and Melanie think about certain books! I just usually go to facebook and my email and that’s ll I have time for, but I try to check you out every few days!

By the way the site looks great, you guys have put a lot of work into it! I love it. As for my favorite types of books I would have to say almost all fiction books except for horror are my faves. I just read the Hunger Games and I loved it. I also love all of Nora’s books. And I am hooked on Nalini’s changeling series. I also love murder mystery and James Patterson is one of my favorite authors in that genre. Pretty much I will read anything!

Congrats on the new site, Heather and Melanie. You already named some of my favorite contemporary authors, but I would also add Susan Andersen. Can’t wait to read her new release.

I know how many books you have to give away!

I recently read Jennifer Crusie’s new one, Maybe This Time. Loved it! A fun mix of gothicy horror and romance, all with classic Crusie humor. She’s an author I can always recommend to get people started reading romance because there’s enough other elements — family, mystery, mayhem, whatever — to hook anybody.

Jessa you are awesome, and yes you would know how many we have to give away as you were with us when we got most of them.

I have never been able to get in Jennifer Cruise but Melanie likes her a lot.
