Series: Fatal bk 5
Author: Marie Force
Genre: Contemporary. Romantic Suspense
The wife of the White House deputy chief of staff has been beaten to death, and their one-year-old daughter is missing. D.C. Police Lieutenant Sam Holland is in charge of the murder investigation, but she’s forced to collaborate with Special Victims Unit detectives as well as thorn-in-her-side FBI Special Agent Avery Hill. Then, a cold case of her father’s resurrects old hurts—a distraction Sam cannot afford.
As Sam’s investigation heats up, so does Nick’s political career—and the heat carries over to their bedroom. Will Sam put the pieces together in time to catch a killer and find the baby, or will ambition, greed and lies prove fatal?
Marie Force is an author whose books I have really enjoyed, and when this series started I was really enjoying it. But by book 3 I was done with the series, I can’t honestly say why either.
So when I saw this book up on NetGalley I decided to give it a go. I have to say that over all I really liked the story.
Having missed the last books I found it really easy to fall back into the world of Sam and Nick, the only thing I didn’t know was how they’d come to know the little boy in foster care they wanted to adopt. Other than that I was able to catch up pretty quick.
Sam and Nick have settled into married life and the campaign trail for Nick Senatorial re-election, and solving homicides. When one of their friends comes home from Camp David to find his daughter missing and wife dead Sam’s on the case.
One of the things I enjoy about this series is it’s a lot like the In Death series by J.D. Robb. While their similar in that Sam’s a homicide detective, Nick is very much not like Roarke. For me it isn’t so much about the relationship between Sam and Nick as it is the homicide and how she discovers who did it and why.
I have to say that I can normally figure out who did and why however this one kept me guessing. When the murder is revealed along with all the why’s and hows it was definitely not something I was expecting.
If you like a good murder mystery along with a nice romance between a newly wedded couple than you won’t want to miss this book.
Grade B+
I haven’t read anything by this author, but this series sounds good. And you even compare it to the In Death series!
