Series: One Eyed Jacks
Author: Cindy Gerard
Genre: Contemporary, Romantic Suspense
An exciting new series featuring Mike “Primetown” Brown, a character from her popular “Black Ops, Inc.” series.
For the seven years after Operation Slam Dunk went south, Mike Brown got drunk on each anniversary. The eighth year was no different–until he was drugged by a woman and woke up to her questions about what had happened eight years ago in Afghanistan. CIA attorney Eva Salinas has her own theory behind what happened to Mike’s team–which included her husband–in Afghanistan eight years ago, and she’s determined to prove foul play. Though she doesn’t trust him, Mike is the only person she can turn to for help. Under an assumed name, Eva convinces Mike to assemble a new team and go after the traitor who screwed up both their lives. As they track down the rogue who started it all, Eva and Mike discover they can’t live without each other. But can they stay alive while an enemy is still on the loose?
When it comes to Black OP’s stories Cindy Gerard is one of the top romance writers in the genre. She knows how to create heroes we love and want more of. When she introduced us to the surly pilot Mike “Primetime” Brown in the BOI’s series she did just that. She created a character we wanted more of. Why was he so surly? How did the guys know who he was? Why were they so certain he’d help them?
In Killing Time we get all of those questions answered and then some. From the first page to the last I was completely sucked into the story of Mike and Eva and their search for the truth of what really happened on that mission where Mike’s life went to hell in a hand basket. Because it wasn’t only Mike’s life that was screwed that day, but his two surviving teammates and Eva’s as well.
In Killing Time we go from South America to Washington D.C. to Idaho, all on the search for truth. Along the way Mike and Eva discover their animosity for each other is really a cover for the sexual tension brewing between them and when it explodes I’ll simply tell you its HOT!
I do have to tell you that when it comes out who was really behind everything I was shocked. It came completely out of nowhere, at least for me.
One of my favorite parts of the book however comes at the end when….nope not going to tell you 🙂
In case you haven’t guessed I liked this book, ok I’ll be honest I LOVED the book. It may end up being my favorite book of Cindy’s.
Overall if you like HOT (and there’s 3 of them) former Special Op’s guys, lots of action, snark, sexual tension, inside jokes between guys who served together and a kick ass heroine who makes them behave well then you won’t want to miss this book. I know I can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out.
Oh and we also get to catch up with the BOI’s which is always good because I really like those guys.
Grade A
Great review, thank you. I need to start reading this author!
