New Release and Review: Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Storm and Fury book 1 in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s new Harbinger series releases today!

Blurb:

Enter a world of gargoyle protectors, rising demons and one girl with an explosive secret.

Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens—gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.

When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…

My Thoughts:

I was so excited to get my hands on this book! I have always been and will always be the president of the Roth fan club, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t like Zayne…I just didn’t like him for Layla.

Let’s rewind a tad….Storm and Fury is the first book in a spinoff series of the Dark Elements Series -where we first meet Zayne.

It can be read as a standalone, and I have no doubt that readers will be able to follow the events just fine. Jennifer L. Armentrout does a great job debriefing in the beginning to get the reader up to speed. BUT let’s be honest, one of the best things about Armentrout’s series is falling into these amazing worlds she creates and getting wrapped up in the characters. Therefore, I STRONGLY recommend reading the Dark Elements Series first. That way you totally getthe tension between Zayne, and Roth, and when you see the relationship between Zayne and Trinity building, you can reallycelebrate how far Zayne has come.

So let’s chat Storm and Fury. The heroin Trinity lives with Gargoyles, most of whom believe she is a human, but a few know that she lives with them to be protected, and to train so she is “ready.” Though for a big chunk of the time we don’t know what she needs to be “ready” for. Trinity is fierce. She has a degenerative eye disease, but she doesn’t let that define her. In fact, she has managed to learn to fight, train, and do so many things despite her diminishing vision. She is loyal, feisty, and funny. However, she also feels lonely and a little trapped. Cue Zayne, the dreamy gargoyle from D.C!  Zayne, shows up at her compound with a few others, requesting assistance in DC where strange things have been happening to both gargoyles and demons.

I have to admit, the beginning of the book was a tad slow to me. I found myself thinking “So when will Zayne show up and the fun start?” Well let me tell you. Once Zayne shows up, the fun starts! Trinity and Zayne are drawn to each other immediately and when drama strikes, they are paired together to go to D.C. and find Trinity’s friend.  I loved the banter between Trinity and Zayne. I loved how their relationship slowly built. I don’t want to give away too many details, but I will say there were greatly anticipated cameos, and the perfect balance of action and swoon. And PEANUT! Peanut brings the laughs when they’re needed. I loved being back in this world, and cannot wait for the next book!
