New Release and Review: The War of Two Queens by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Next installment in the From Blood and Ash Series releases today.

Blurb:

rom the desperation of golden crowns…

Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

And born of mortal flesh…

Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for. With the strength of the Primal of Life’s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her way—because there can be no retreat this time. Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.

A great primal power rises…

Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dear—to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But war is only the beginning. Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to be—what she fears the most.

As the Harbinger of Death and Destruction.

My Thoughts:

This book picks up right where The Crown of Gilded Bones ends, so make sure you’re all caught up before diving in.

So, we’re back with Poppy. She’s taken on the role of Queen of Atlatian, surrounded herself with advisors and is plotting to get Casteel back from the Blood Queen and to destroy the Blood Crown once and for all.

No lie y’all, this one didn’t do it for me. I felt disappointed for a majority of the book. It was long, too wordy if I’m honest, and behaviors and feelings didn’t match up with the character’s I’ve grown to love. Don’t get me wrong, I love Casteel. LOVE HIM. He is the swooniest book boyfriend ever, and  I really did love that we got his point of view in this book. Seeing how much he loves Poppy was *chef’s kiss!

But I was let down by the rest.

I don’t even care about  that one scene that fans clamored for. It was everything leading up to and afterwards that was disappointing.

I will say that The War Of Two Queens ties in with A Shadow in the Embers, and sets us up for the next book well.

At some points, I was overwhelmed with the details, world building, the amount of words in this book, and disappointed that this book felt like it catered to fans more than held true to the characters that I love. This was my least favorite book in the series, but I’m holding out hope for the next book.

Grade C+
