RESCUE ME
Cedar Ridge, Colorado, is famous for crisp mountain air, clear blue skies, and pine-scented breezes. And it’s the last place Lily Danville wants to be. But she needs a job, and there’s an opening at the hottest resort in her hometown. What has her concerned is the other hot property in Cedar Ridge: Aidan Kincaid-firefighter, rescue worker, and heartbreaker. She never could resist that devastating smile . . .
The Kincaid brothers are as rough and rugged as the Rocky Mountains they call home. Aidan has always done things his own way, by his own rules. And never has he regretted anything more than letting Lily walk out of his life ten years ago. If anyone has ever been in need of rescuing, she has. What she needs more than anything are long hikes, slow dances, and sizzling kisses. But that can only happen if he can get her to give Cedar Ridge-and this bad boy-a second chance.
Thoughts: A good romance will have three things, 1)compelling characters, 2) a story line that sucks you 3) and just the right amount conflict (either internal or external). With Second Chance Summer Shalvis hits the trifecta.
First let me warn you…DO NOT READ THIS IN BED WHILE YOUR PARTNER IS SLEEPING BECAUSE YOU WILL SHAKE THE BED WITH LAUGHTER!!! Okay warning over…back to the review.
From the very first page I was hooked on the story of Lily and Aidan, from their first sight of each other in years which was freaking awesome in its hilarity to the interactions of the Kincaid siblings. Don’t even get me started on Lily’s best friend and Aidan’s mom. Let’s just say they stole the scene when they were in it.
Lily fled Cedar Springs ten years ago and has never looked back. For her sanity she couldn’t. Now she’s back and everything she has been running from for the last ten years is in her face and she has to deal with everything that sent her running in the first place.
Aidan has a lot going on in his life…trying to help his brothers save their families resort, on top of his job with Search and Rescue and the local fire department. So having the girl that got away back in town, a fact no one in his family thought he needed to know, has him making some fast decisions. All of them revolving around Lily.
As these two work through their demons and discover that not everything was they thought it was ten years ago, they discover that what they’d thought was potent all those years ago has only gotten stronger.
One of my favorite things about this story, was that every time Lily would go hiking one of Aidan’s siblings would call him and tell him she was wandering around the mountain and off he’d go to find her.
I love Shalvis story telling, and own most of her books, so when I say that is my new favorite Shalvis book, I’m not lying. She had me ignoring everything I needed to be doing and staying up way later than I should have just to finish it. Not only was I caught up in Lily and Aidan’s story, but also in his siblings lives.
If you love Shalvis Luck Harbor series then you won’t want to miss this book.
