Series: FBI
Author: Julie Garwood
Genre: Contemporary
When FBI agent Grayson Kincaid first encounters Olivia MacKenzie, she makes quite an impression.
The beautiful, tough, young attorney has stumbled into the middle of an FBI sting operation and has reduced it to chaos. Months of surveillance and careful planning down the drain, Kincaid’s partner is furious and lets Olivia know that she’s ticked off the wrong guy. After all, he’s FBI.
Olivia isn’t intimidated by his partner’s bullying because she’s something even scarier . . . she’s IRS.
And working for the IRS isn’t for the faint of heart. She’s on the trail of an elaborate Ponzi scheme, one that threatens to ruin the lives of naive and unsuspecting victims, and one she has personal reasons to be angry about. But after she asks questions of the wrong people, her life is suddenly endangered. She’s accustomed to fighting for the underdog but being vulnerable herself is a very different story. Smart enough to know when to call for reinforcements, she contacts Grayson Kincaid.
Together they make an excellent team to fight corruption but Olivia is also fighting the immediate and intense attraction she feels for Agent Kincaid, and that may be a battle she is bound to lose.
Julie Garwood is an author you can always depend on to deliver a sexy, fun story with a hero who is confident and sure of what he wants and a heroine who is strong enough to stand up to him and yet they complement each other perfectly.
When Julie told me about this book last year when I interviewed her for the release of The Ideal Man (one of my top 5 favorite Julie books) I was intrigued and wondered how she was going to make an IRS agent interesting, because lets face it no one finds the IRS sexy and interesting. While I still don’t find the IRS cool she made her heroine IRS analyst Olivia MacKenzie sexy and interesting.
When Olivia and Grayson Kincaid (yes you read the last name right and yes he is the descendant of Alec Kincaid from the Bride and the cousin of Sam Kincaid from Sizzle who is the current Laird Kincaid) meet you can tell it’s going to be an interesting ride.
The road to a happily ever after isn’t a smooth one as Olivia is bound and determined to put her father behind bars for his crimes, and Grayson is an FBI agent who goes from living a bachelors life and pursuing Olivia to raising his nephew. But they do manage to make it work and in a way that is perfect for them.
Here is one of my favorite parts of the book…
Distraught to have his investigation fall apart, Agent Poole stepped closer and said, “Listen , you. Don’t threaten me. I could make your life a nightmare.” He put his hand in front of her face and unfolded three fingers as he said, “I’m F…B…I.”
She smiled. It wasn’t the reaction he expected. “You want to talk nightmares?” she said. She put her hand up to his face and unfolded her three fingers. “I’m I…R…S.”
This is one of those stories that had me reading it in one sitting, as I couldn’t put it down. Grayson lives up to his Kincaid roots and is everything you would expect from a descendant of Alec and Jamie (that’s a man’s name) Kincaid.
If you are a fan of Julie’s and loved The Bride you won’t want to miss this story.
