Series: Doyle-Hunter Family bk 3
Author: Cathie Linz
Genre: Contemporary
Marissa Bennett needs to start over, but the last thing she needs is a new man in her life. Enter sexy lawman Connor Doyle-the high school bad boy who took her innocence. She knows she should turn the page on her past, but Connor is irresistible. Has she come all the way home just to get her heart broken again?
I have read almost all of Cathie Linz’s books and I have to say that I finally found a book I didn’t automatically fall in love with. In fact I didn’t really like Marissa for most of the book.
While I was reading the story I found myself enjoying the secondary characters more than the heroine. There are two characters in particular “The Polish Girls” aka Connor’s mom and grandma who stole the scene as soon as they showed up on the pages. These two characters still crack me up long after I have finished reading the book.
Marissa and Connor are one of those second chance stories even though no one knew they were together years ago. Because of this I never really understood Marissa’s anger at Connor. They were together for a few months when he was a freshman in college and she refused to let them be a couple who went out in public. It felt more like they were friends with benefits than an couple.
Add in that they are both really stubborn and have to work together on an after-school project for at risk teens. Something they both want to be in charge of and which neither is willing to compromise and well there is LOTS of tension between them.
When I first finished the book I didn’t like it, however as time went on I realized that I had really enjoyed it. While this isn’t my favorite book of her’s I did enjoy the story.
