Title: Undone

Series: Fiery Tales bk 3

Author: Lila DiPasqua

Genre: Historical Romance

Maintaining her ruse as a commoner, and trusting no one has kept Angelica safe. But a chance encounter with a handsome stranger lands her right where danger lies. Now, this sinfully handsome man with arresting blue eyes and a polished manner thinks he’s saved her life, when in fact he’s placed her in great peril. She’s intent on keeping him and everyone else at arm’s length. Yet, the smoldering attraction between them is difficult to deny. And impossible to ignore . . .

As commander of a number of privateer ships, Simon Boulenger dresses and speaks like an aristocrat, and has obtained wealth. But he is still not a noble. Or an officer in the King’s Navy. His lifelong dream to elevate himself from his station of birth and attain a respectable place in society is dead. Worse, he’s ensnared in a deadly scheme, and must get out. But how is he to stay focused on his dangerous mission when the mysterious beauty has him utterly intrigued? He can’t afford the distraction any more than he can resist the carnal hunger she stirs. Simon soon discovers that she’s not only a passionate soul mate, but a woman born into privilege. A woman he can never have. But they’re in too deep. Their hearts are at risk . . . as well as their lives.

Lila DiPasqua is a fresh and unique voice in historical romance, and I am completely hooked on her take of the classic fairy tales.

One of the things I really like about Lila is that her books don’t take place in Regency England, but rather in France during the 17th century. Her books are peppered with French sayings and words.

Before I start this review I have to say that until Lila I wasn’t a huge fan of the fairy tales, especially the princess ones, even though I own all the Disney Princess movies. However with Tangled Disney changed my mind on the story of Rapunzel. And I do have to admit there were times while I was reading Undone one of the songs from that movie would come to me.

Ok now to my thoughts on the story.

Simon first shows up in A Midnight Dance as one of Jules friends. He has one goal and one goal only to no longer a commoner. He has done everything in his power to accomplish that. He has devoted his life to the service of the King with the Navy and commands several ships. He also has a private island where most of his men’s families now reside that isn’t a part of any realm.

Angelica has been hiding in a convent from the age of 14 after the death of her father and her mother. Leaving her in the care of her very evil stepfather. She has one goal and one goal only to stay out of his reach. When she ends up on Simon’s ship heading for France she is more than a little pissed off.

I loved watching these two battle their attraction for each other and their circumstances. While they wanted to be together there was so many outside forces that fought to keep them apart.

When Angelica does something to protect herself when she thought she’d been abandoned by Simon only to discover she’d been wrong my heart broke for them and I wondered how they would get their HEA. I should have trusted Lila because the way that this is resolved is done so beautifully and gives them the HEA they both deserve.

If you haven’t yet picked up one of Lila’s books then you should start with this one. While its the third book in her Fiery Tales series it can be read as a stand a lone book.

The book sounds great, thank you for the review. My favorite tale is “The Wild Swans” by Andersen. It’s about a girl who wants to save her brothers from a curse that has them turned into swans. To do so, she has to remain silent and knit shirts made of nettles for them. In then end, she manages to save her brothers and marry the king of the country. The story is is rather hard sometimes because some people think she’s a witch but I love her devotion to her brothers. I think it’s beautiful!

Beauty and The Beast. I have a soft spot for bookish and unassuming heroines (when they get rid of their glasses and let their hair loose, they are capable of unsuspected sensuality) and rough around the edges alpha male with an hidden core of kindness.

My favorite is Cinderella. Maybe because it is the most popular or the very first one I learned about. And it is every woman’s dream isn’t it?

I’d have to say Beauty and the Beast, because it is such a touching love story when either party can see beyond the external flawed package.

I would pick Beauty and the Beast for the tragic hero. I just don’t trust all those shining princes in the other stories.
